Gosh Josh: Macc Set To King Grimsby For Gowling

Whilst Grimsby Town ponder, big spending Macclesfield Town boss Steve King has offered a deal to transfer listed Imp and former Gillingham defensive stalwart Josh Gowling. With David Holdsworth eager to lighten his wage bill the Imps are unlikely to ask for a fee for their highest earner, with Reg looking for the wedge to bring in another new face shortly.

Although many Imps will be staggered that Macclesfield appear to be able to pick our bones nowadays, a move to Macc would be easier to stomach than one up the road to Grimsby Town.   Macc not only have a bigger budget than the Imps, but they also offer accommodation, something we knocked on the head this season. They will need to make those transfer fees and the Football League parachute money count this season, because this level of expenditure is surely unsustainable as the Imps and Hereford United have found to their cost.

The  Grimsby duo will also need to deliver this season. John Fenty almost parted company with the club last year leaving things to the Trust (never a sound move in the casino that is modern football) but he returned and will surely not want too many repeats of the  2-1 defeat of Stalybridge Celtic.  The Mariners need to replace Coulson as they are too reliant on Colbeck on the flank at present.
