The Imps Are Shaping Up Well Considering….

The Imps  have now beaten Middlesbrough FC  and Scunthorpe United in consecutive games, scoring two goals in each.  Certainly the opposition were playing far from first teamers but  Lincoln continue to confound the critics, those concerned over the case for the defence, the bottom third £400,000 budget afforded to the manager and a pre-season pricing policy that has seen many unable to taste the cream.  Its all positive on the pitch however. Another of the new signings is now getting amongst the goals, with Fairhurst notching a beautiful brace, showing finishing that would grace any stage.  The passing has taken fans and foe by surprise given the reputation and size of the aptly nicknamed Six-foot soldiers. Hoof!!!!

For those Imps back from their holidays, a recap of an optimistic and intriguing pre-season that is showing an awful lot of promise.  STMI take a look at the ins and outs of 2013/14  plus the results complete with hot-links to match reports.

The Comings and Goings

Lincoln have nine signed so far, although one of those is a temporary deal for Foster who will sign his full agreed one year contract as soon as the one remaining member of the admin staff returns from holiday.  Imps need not worry but clearly the loss of the CEO has left things a little stretched – perhaps it would be nice to bring back Fran Martin aka Mrs Lincoln City. The manager released 7 players with Oliver moving to Crewe for what could be worth £45k if he plays enough games and triggers enough add-ons.  Alfreton split the difference on the initial bid made in the summer according to sources in Derbyshire. In hindsight, a wonderful thing in any walk of life,  if Town had let him go at the start of the summer they would have actually been better off as they have had to pay his wages due to the player’s contract being a full-time one as opposed to a 44 week affair.  But that’s football for you.

The squad The side does have a decent balance to it despite the compact size with Jordan, Sheridan and Fofana all able to fill in should six defenders be insufficient.  The manager also has a loan budget with Boro and The Black Cats apparently impressed with the style and philosophy of the football.  As we pointed out in May Jamie Clapham, an Imp born and Bred is the chief development coach at Boro.

Sunderland AFC The Black Cats, are sending their development squad, essentially the young and emerging stars complete with the  lively Paulo Di Canio to Sincil Bank on Wednesday. They will pose an altogether different challenge for the Imps who lost 1-2 at Grantham.

The Lincoln City

Impvasion Of Harrogate

The Imps travel to Harrogate Town (their President is Leeds United legend David Batty – now that was a proper example of an old school midfield General). The Town are an ambitious club who have players on the books on the same money we are paying thanks to the backing of Irving Weaver, father of former Imp Simon Weaver, who is the current manager.  Kick-off has been brought forward to 7.30 PM tomorrow.

Harrogate had Matt Bloomer, Peter Bore, Colin Larkin, Paul Bolland and two from Bradford City on their books last season, finishing 6th in the Conference North, just outside the play-offs. Town also beat Torquay to progress to the second round of the FA Cup

The club has invested heavily again this term, including goal machine Tommy Wright, who joined from Tamworth in June. Inspirational Lee Franks and Ashley Worsfield have arrived from Alfreton for undisclosed fees, whilst their team-mate Anton Brown came on a free. Chris Hall has arrived from  Stalybridge Celtic and Craig Nelthorpe from Gainsborough.

Town play at the scenic Wetherby Road Stadium, capacity 3800, with 500 seats and averaged a credible 434 last season.

Tickets £££’s

Adult £12

Senior £7

Student £5

Under 18’s £3

Please note that for Students, Seniors and Under 18′s – proof of age will be required when purchasing/collecting tickets.

SATNAV or GOOGLE MAPS –  CNG Stadium Wetherby Road, Harrogate, North Yorkshire HG2 7SA

Leave the A1(M) at Junction 47 and take the A59 towards Knaresborough. Then take the A658 towards Bradford/Harrogate. At the second roundabout turn right onto the A661 towards Harrogate. You will pass a Sainsburys and then after the lights with the Woodlands pub on one corner, then the entrance to the ground is a just a bit further down on the right.

Lincoln City The Pre-season so far

The 7-1 defeat of Lincoln United has got the pre-season back on track for the faithful.  Todd Jordan was left on crutches but Big Bohan Dixon bagged a brace to stake a claim for a deal at the club. Danny Rowe got an outrageous hat-trick to suggest the advanced midfielder is indeed worthy of the number 9 shirt.

thanks for reading Neil Gentleman-Hobbs.

Lincoln City F.C. badge.png

Gary Simpson appears to have made some exciting signings in the form of Sean Newton, Nat Brown, Wade Fairhurst, Danny Rowe, Jon Nolan, Nick Wright and Adi Yussuf. The re-engagement of Tom Miller, Andrew Boyce, Dan Gray, Todd Jordan, Mamadou Fofana, Alan Power and Jake Sheridan also suggests confidence and continuity. There is room for youth too with Connor Robinson, Karl Cunningham and Jordan Thomas also in a squad that is making us all feel excited. Full Player pics HERE. With 1150 season tickets sold the only downer is that STMI and 3 others are still banned from games at Sincil Bank and that the local official media continue to ignore any elephants in the room.

The expected defeat at Chesterfield saw Yussuff get off the mark, whilst a hat-trick for Rowe and a brace for trialist Dixon, as well as Captain Power was a massive confidence booster. Yussuff also got his second goal in succesive games, so all bodes well for the future going into the Harrogate game tomorrow.

Here are the results so far. All of Lincoln City’s friendly and competitive fixtures and results 2013/14 are available on the fixtures and results page (including the Imp count) on the menu at the top of the page or HERE if you want to bookmark them. Below this season you will find last season’s games scorers, attendances and of course the STMI IMP count home and away.

Foxes Challenge Imps Resolve.

The Imps have pulled off at least one top notch friendly this summer in the form of Leicester City . The Foxes who have just invested in excess of a million in Fleetwood Town hotshot Vardie .  Although a quick look at the friendly fixtures suggests that the Community slot has not yet been filled. With Holdsworth’s connections could we be looking at a game against Sheffield United, Birmingham or perhaps even Watford given his connections with Graham Taylor our old ‘Enticer’

Leicester City logo

The Eastwood fixture forms part of the deal involving Jake Sheridan when he joined us last year.  The short trip to Nottinghamshire will be the first true run out for Reg’s Rebellious Reds and would be an easy and cheap day out – HERE. The four fixtures sandwiching this one all involve select elevens ensuring the squad is split.
