Vanarama Premier Home Support – Who Are The Conference Crowd Pullers?

Bristol Rovers, Wrexham FC, Grimsby Town, Lincoln City and Chester make up the Conference Premier home attendances top five with 20% of the season gone

Bristol Rovers still managed over 4800 fans on  a Champions league Tuesday, although the Dragons crowds are on the up. Grimsby’s die-heard support is fantastic  and pretty consistent for a club 13th in the Conference. The Mariners took 1800 to the Imps, the 5209 crowd upping Lincoln’s average to over 3,000 so far this season.

Chester (16th) continue to amaze, with Aldershot’s crowds not that far off their final League Two days.  Ditto the Gulls who are tearing the League apart over the last few weeks.  In all fantastic support given the amount of mid-week games this time of year.  There are some very long journeys too, although it appears  that is just the way the fixtures come out of the hat.

Vanarama Conference logo.pngThere are just 6 teams averaging under a thousand now, although three of them are in the 900’s with one in the 800’s. Thirteen of the People’s premiership average 1500 or more.

Vanarama Conference logo.pngFootball Bingo have included the total turnstile clicks, average and highest  gate plus League position ( in brackets) – a test of loyalty in itself surely -for the purposes of the analysis.

apologies for the delay, been writing a book in memory of Richard Butcher for charity and the broken heel has had me hanging like a bat at times! thanks as ever for stopping by and reading Neil Gentleman-Hobbs

As usual we give both the average and the total turnstile clicks of the travelling fans. Once again you were loud and should be rightly proud considering the prices and the climate. The average taken away in the BSP was 195 plus the shrapnel down by 15 on the previous season. The Mighty Imps recovered from 183 to 228 after another shocker.

BSP Average Away Support stats 2011/12

The Blue Square Premier Away support sees Luton Town, Wrexham,  Grimsby Town, York City, Mansfield Town, Stockport County, Cambridge United and Lincoln City all boast football League standard away followings. Add to that the fact that 40% of those were on Tuesday or Wednesday nights and you realise that passion is clearly the fashion in the fifth tier of English football.

The average away support stands at 207,  although Hayes and Bath – let us not rub it in – have been in the teens. Luton can claim first  place with 1754  at Cambridge respectively whilst   Grimsby are second with over 1717 at Lincoln City but its the highs minus the lows over a season that  tell the true tale.

So who are the loyalist BSP fans?
