The Lambs may have lost Cunnington but they have used the fee to bring in some serious quality including Richards from Oxford, Regan from Forest, Ebanks from Birmingham and Evans from Gillingham. Mind you Gaffer Belford has brought in his son Cameron from Bury to guard the sticks.  Simmo  looks lucky to have beaten them to Nick Wright by the looks of things.

Scott McNiven has a very small budget but he has plenty of favours he can call in from some fallen and powerful local neighbours. Hogan’s fee from Rochdale will come in useful to tempt some of the trialists to stay, but the signatures of Collins and Hughes are a good start.

The Mariners have been quiet in the market for sure, with quality and steel to the fore. Winger Scott Neilson has arrived from Luton to complement a new look midfield thanks also to York raids for Scott Kerr and Patrick McLaughlin. Oh Scotty Kerr how you made young Frecklington purr! They have kept Craig Disley suggesting this foursome are a formidable force who can and will dominate games at our level. A ball winning crew and supply line to boost an awesome array of attacking talent.

However the Mariners have lost inspirational characters and talent as part of a nine-man clear out, with even financial benefactor Mr Fenty, eager to balance the books in the face of new fair play break-even rules.  Defenders, Wood, Miller and Ford, have gone to pastures new. Artus, Niven, Soares and Josh Morrall have vacated the midfield, but the replacements see improvement rather than concern. Greg Pearson is the only forward to leave, suggesting the duo are more than pleased with the multitude of blessings up front, in the form of hitman Hearn Hannah and Cook.

Hereford United

Hereford managed to find £300,000 over the summer to halt the exodus and allow Martin Foyle – the second best manager in this league – to build a side.  Sam Smith is an one, but then Bush, Pilkington, Purdie and Walker have a reassurance to build on.  Foyle has not got money to burn but at least he can start to pull in some of those irons in the fires over the next couple of weeks. The young keeper is very useful.

It is great to see Mike Rance and Andy Scott back involved with Macclesfield with loyal servant John Askey at the helm.  So far he has tapped his Preston contacts for two players and raided fallen rivals Stockport for another. Cambridge United

Cambridge are undoubtedly contenders this year, Jez George has added to a strong side that has had a season to bed in. Goals were the problem and with ex-Imp Smith off to the Bulls for a season he has added two more strikers. Cunnington is a fantastic signing and the U’s will give him even more opportunities than he enjoyed at Tamworth. Young Sam-Yorke was a revelation at Basingstoke and is the sort of talent that could compete at Championship level with ease.

Three promotions in three season’s says it all, but the young side has added to wise old heads this season. Ever wondered where John Worthington went last season? Well Sincil Bank will finally get to see him in the flesh next season.  The Conference will also have one of football’s most policed derbies next term when Wrexham and Chester clash. Simon Yeo once netted a penalty for Chester in the fixture – the adrenalin rush was akin to when he served his county in live combat.
