Shades Of Gray Rant: Things Can Only Get Better, Erm Maybe Not

With a precious home victory at last, albeit against a team 2nd from bottom and the Board of LCFC meeting with a supporters group you would have thought that things were looking up, but how wrong could you be.

Sincil Shades of Gray has a rant for us

A win is a win I suppose even if it was against Hyde. You would have thought by some of the posts on the various supporters forums we had actually turned the corner. This isn’t the truth at all. It took an 18 year old loanee and a 17 year old striker to carve out a chance that even my wife could have scored to turn around yet another patchy display by a team devoid of tactics and direction. To yet again try and sit on a one goal lead shows how desperate our manager has become to even get a win and in my opinion how tactically naïve and inept he really is. The one plus side of this week so far is that he hasn’t signed another player yet, but it is still only Tuesday so you never know. On Saturday we travelled to Tamworth, the scene of our last manager’s demise, but, despite the  0-1 defeat he is likely to be here for some time.

That’s enough about the footballing side of the club as it is so depressing it has driven me to have another drink. So let us begin with the meeting between the Board and the Lincoln City Banter supporters group, based on what I have read at present.

The Board were asked a number of questions on the finances of the club and some of the answers seem to contradict the statement made by the Chairman on Radio Lincs only 10 days or so before. The Chairman had said that the club was losing £10k a home game, yet, the Financial Director said the projected loss would be £150k for the season. So we only play 15 home games a season then do we? No wonder we are always fighting relegation as we can’t fulfil all our 23 home fixtures.

On the playing side the Board have given their full backing to the Manager, even though the Chairman admitted he didn’t have enough experience when first appointed. SO WHY BLOODY APPOINT HIM THEN? They feel that the signing of 46 players in 47 weeks is acceptable because we were/are fighting relegation. Note to club ‘ If you had sacked the last manager when we got relegated we may have not been in such a mess when he took over.’ The Chairman has recognised this up to a point so that’s enough said about it. I still feel the manager we have at present is the wrong man for the job, but what do I know, I have only supported the club for 38 years.

The biggest problem many fans and I will include myself in this is that the club have become totally detached from the fans/supporters with their complete lack of PR regarding anything LCFC related. This was only made clearer when the Chairman said he has evidence of 6 posts on forums that were libellous but, at present will not be taking court proceedings against the individuals at this moment in time. Mr Dorrian you are Chairman of a football club and I think you need to be a bit more thick skinned than you are as you will come up against worse than what has been said if things don’t improve on the pitch very quickly. I can see in the very near future that the fans – if results don’t improve – will yet again resort to a protest (at the very least all the plumbers in Lincoln will be put on high alert, just in case another pipe decides to burst).

Some supporters are relishing this opportunity to fire fight on behalf of the club as they have seen that, with this meeting occurring, it has taken the pressure off the manager and team so the results, both Saturday and tonight, will be irrelevant. Some are even suggesting that the stay away fans should start going back and watching the dross that is dished out week in and week out because it will help the club. If these fans went back and paid over the odds for something they don’t enjoy then the Board would go back to its attitude of everything is ok, so lets go back to the way we were.

In these times of austerity people want value for money and, myself along with the other 2000 or so stay away fans, feel that at present, this is not the case, so without a shadow of doubt we will not be going back in the near future. If results don’t improve I also feel that the Chairman will have no choice but to relieve the manager of his duties which will save his own backside for a while and may also put another 500 or so on the attendance. If he appointed Grant Brown as caretaker Manager until the end of the season if this did happen, then I could see upwards of 1000 fans returning.

This is just one fans opinion, but speaking to other fans some being supporters for 40 years plus I am not alone so until things improve the clubs plight will not improve.

Sincil Gray Asks Have The Imps Masses had Enough?

With the failure to beat the might that is Ebbsfleet on Saturday and the last gasp draw against Gateshead it seems that the masses are beginning to talk with their feet. Some out there may still think this is acceptable as they did last week, I however think it is not.

Thank you for reading Sincil Gray

Only just over 1600 die hard Imps turned up to watch yet another unfavourable draw against a team that will be fighting relegation come the end of the season and we should be beating with ease, (no disrespect to Ebbsfleet) seeing us give away an early lead and get outplayed in the second half.

The manager didn’t seem to be too bothered (I don’t know if he was or not) as he lent against the dugout in his usual pose, no encouragement and some rather suspect substitutions, we end up just about deserving the point. We were in a similar position last season with 5 points from our first 6 games yet neither the board or manager seemed to be concerned with our predicament.

The events of this past week have not helped the club with the exception of a 17 year old coming off the bench to secure a point at Gateshead, (did this goal save Reg’s job for another week). Josh Gowling being paid off due to reasons we will never really find out about, 2 players being released and yet another addition to the playing squad making that 45 and counting and keeping up the average of one a week coming into the club.

Members of The Lincoln City Banter Facebook Group being threatened with libel action by certain persons who, it seems have attached themselves in or around the club along with others who may or may not still be within the group waiting to slur the GOOD name of the groups founder Paul Dawson.

Many members of this group have their own opinions to the goings on within the club, but, due to the total breakdown of PR within the club some of them have to speculate what may or may not be going on. Their opinion may not be to everyones liking, which then sees certain individuals aligning themselves to persecute these individuals systematically and within every post they make with a zeal only the club could dream of. If only the team could show this sort of thing on the pitch.

Listening to the Chairman’s interview today was not pleasant as he was asked the Gowling question which he answered adequately enough, but then came the answer/statement which has tipped many fans over the edge. When asked about finances being tough he replied that the club needs to have attendances of between 2800 and 3000 to break even. Since the playing budget has been slashed to a mere £400,000 supposedly, we still need the same amount of fans as last season or we will lose £10k a home game????????????????? Someone seems to have got the business plan wrong as I cannot remember when we last had 3000 fans on a regular basis coming through the turnstiles at Sincil Bank. After the attendances of last season surely they should have revised this down to 2200 maximum.

I feel the fans have now had enough of the present regime along with the lack of progress on the field which now sees protests being organised to get back our beloved club (someone best go and check the plumbing at the club before this happens). They no longer feel they are getting Value for Money and no longer trust the present regime to get us out of this awful league. Rose Tinted won’t be very happy with this but some feel this is the only way they can get their point across to a club that it seems is no longer at the heart of the community, even though it is a community club!!!

On a personal note I would just like to wish my nephew William all the best for Tuesday night when he will be the mascot for the Alfreton game. I am hoping for a win so that he has a wonderful birthday but I am not holding my breath.

A Rant From Sincil Shades Of Gray

Following defeats to Newport County, Macclesfield Town, Cambridge United and a win against Kidderminster Harriers who are having a train wreck of a season; a lifelong Imps fan and new STMI columnist takes to his key-board and rants for Impdom.

These are the open and honest views of the author and not neccesarily those of STMI, particularly Rose Tinted, who dwells in a place that only allows varying shades of Pink and Brown. Thanks for reading Sincil Shades of Gray.

We live  here

To all fellow Imp supporters, after reading the comments after yet another defeat yesterday I cannot believe what a lot of you now think is acceptable for our beloved club.  Defeats to Newport who were not in existence as they are now 10 year ago, Macclesfield who at best are an average non league side and Cambridge who have been in this league for years is in my eyes is totally and utterly unacceptable.
“Let’s wait and see if we beat some of the sides around us first” say some of you, Well don’t you think that’s what some of those teams are thinking about us eh!! This club has gone from a team that, season in and season out, were pushing for a play off place, yet now you would be happy to see the Imps beat Ebbsfleet and Alfreton.  Yes some decisions at boardroom level have been questionable, since the Keith era,  including appointing Jacko instead of Kevin McDonald. So now let’s look at what has happened since Side-show Bob has been at the helm, since he was first in charge of the footballing side in Steff Wrights last season as Chairman.
The appointment of Chris Sutton, when we were supposed to be looking for an experienced manager?  I think he got a touch starstruck and,  the following season,  when he was chairman, he let him spend the whole of his playing budget in 3 weeks – on players who thought Christmas had come when they got their contracts. Some of them on £75k a year, staying at Branston Hall and having a sprinting coach all paid for by the club and agreed by the Chairman.
The appointment of the ex Southend manager, who we all thought was a good move, until we then found out he was only working part time and didn’t really give a hoot about the club.  Yet the Chairman does nothing about it. The manager then gets us relegated from the Football League and yet again our beloved Chairman doesn’t activate a clause in his contract to get rid of him for nothing,  thus costing the club in the region of £80k in pay offs and wages already paid.
This now leads us onto the present regime/ one man band we have at the helm of our beloved club. He has signed in excess of 40 players in the 10 months he has been in charge averaging out at ONE a week, is this coincidence that the majority of them are players he has signed at least twice? Or is there something we are missing? My suspicions grow daily. Plus there is the fact that he won’t have an assistant manger because he wants the whole management budget of £71k to himself??

The terrible rumours of player fines still circulate  –  common knowledge at Mansfield according to some Stags fans. Yet I digress let’s get back to the appointment of Reg which looked to be a farce. From what we can make out, Side-show offers the job to Thommo (I didn’t want him but in hindsight would be better than what we got).  Thommo then says ‘let me sort out some accommodation for Mick Harford and I’ll ring you in the morning’. Side-show being the egalitarian leader that he is, then presumably takes the view that no one can tell him what you are doing,  He then decides to appoint the bloke who Boston United’s Chairman interviewed twice and allegedly questioned his geographical origin, linked to the little chap downstairs  with no clue on how manage a club and therefore do the job. Not good enough for Boston but good enough for Side-show says it all really.
His remit was to keep us up and reduce the wage bill which he did -only just- with two games to spare.  Now let’s get down to the the nuts and bolts of OUR club. Side-show and his money mad cronies set up a Holding Company thus making it almost impossible to takeover the club should a potential investor or new owner want to buy the club. Fan groups such as LCB under the fanatical enthusiasm of PAUL DAWSON trying to muster up support and money for the club with certain individuals trying to assassinate his character (Editors note –agree with you there) because they are stuck up certain board members backsides, so far they can’t breath without permission.

We now come back to this season which sees a team, which by the sound of things, wants to succeed but, have a manager totally void of tactical awareness and man management, thus being unable to get the best out of them and whose answer is to sign a player a week and loan out all the promoted youth players to all and sundry. It appears this is so that players, who he has previously signed before, can come to LCFC.

Defeats to the teams mentioned at the beginning are not acceptable and neither is the way the club is being run. Sorry for wasting 15 minutes of your lives you will never get back, but I had to get this off my chest. Bob and Reg out I’m afraid but it is still UP THE IMPS and CITY TILL I DIE.  Rant over.
