Imps V Hyde – The Teams & Schemes

Boosted by Tranmere Rovers, Morecambe FC and Blackpool FC stars, Hyde FC come to an ex-league ground with nothing to lose, every reason to prove and eager for their first scalp of the season. Lincoln are on a hiding to nothing it seems, because a thrashing will be expected, with anything less bound to play into the hands of the Simmo-sceptics.  This will be a cup-final with Hyde eager to kick-start their season on an inspiring stage.

Welcome Tigers, first the schemes, then the potential teams and finally more stats than you can shake an Imp or Tiger at, Thank you for reading Neil Gentleman-Hobbs

Blackpool FC midfield play-maker Tomsett and Tranmere’s Devaney could see a return to 4-3-3 for McNiven’s men, with Morecambe centre-half Will Haining and Captain Ashworth looking assured in the last three games that saw luck elude the Tigers. Ex-Imp Almond might also get a recall, although Mainwaring would be favourite to move into the forward three.  Simmo, bereft of pace may see Wright as fit enough to start as Dixon looks more and more an impact player who goes for broke and is blowing out of is backside after half an hour.  With Sheridan injured Fairhurst will also hopefully have the legs after the virus appears to have put lead in his legs too.  If so Jordan’s height and shooting ability could see Mo, who looks tired, rested as Miller and Newton look to supply the bullets.

Centre backs Luke Ashworth (captain) and Will Haining (in from Morecambe) are a solid pair and despite the 8-0 drubbing on opening day the side are now conceding well under two per game. Even so Tomlinson will fancy his chances on Saturday as this will be a passing game. Miller and Newton could have a field day as full-backs Brizell and Griffin are vulnerable suggesting Tomlinson and Wright could use their pace and trickery to good effect. If Wright starts with or ahead of Fairhurst STMI fancy him to get amongst the goals.  As long as the Imps can find their shooting boots we should be able to punish the tigers at set-pieces too with Boyce, Jordan and Brown  all able to mix it up in both boxes from long throws or corners.

Experienced former Tranmere midfielder cum winger, Martin Devaney, has signed this week posing a problem for Newton, he has over 400 league games and even at 33 he could be the match-winner. Man of the moment Miller will also have to watch Mainwaring, who has thus far this season been the life and soul down their left.  Nolan and Fofana or Jordan will have to be on their game against Tomsett and Brown who have dominated the centre of midfield in the Tigers last four games.

The Tigers are a passing side who are not getting the rub of the green, losing by the odd or late goal or two after enjoying much of the possession.  They do tend to shoot themselves in the foot, so if we can keep on loan Blackpool play-maker Tomsett quiet as well as the front two of Spencer and Dieseruvwe, then Lincoln will get back to winning ways. Concede and it could be just the springboard the Tigers have been looking for.
