Second England Call Up For Imps – Burrow puts Spireites Stevenage & Morecambe behind him
The Imps have succeeded where Chesterfield FC, Stevenage FC, Morecambe FC and Boston Utd could not, with Gary Simpson finding the goal Machine in Jordan Burrow. His four goals so far this season see him link up with fellow Imp Jon Nolan at the England C team training session at St George’s on Sunday 21 September and Monday 22 September ahead of the International Challenge Trophy games away to Turkey in October and at home to Estonia in November.

Jordan, who was at Chesterfield FC from the age of 9, rammed in 26 for the reserves in 2011/12 plus two during a month loan at Boston as a 19 year old. He seemed a born goalscorer. Having notched up 26 goals in his last season as a scholar, he followed that up last year with an IMPressive 18 goal haul, clearly not fazed by adult centre-halves. He is a big solid lad who can definitely do a job at Conference level. Though not blessed with exceptional pace he is not slow, has a great work ethic and is eager to press when not in possession. His natural eye for goal sees him pull the trigger to fantastic effect from anywhere in the box, but his heading ability, positioning andphysical presence earn him most of his goals.
Manager Sheridan offered him his first pro deal in June, then released him in January. Football is not just a hard game but a financial one, the Spireites budget is not the biggest and Sheridan felt he was two years away from the first team. Jordan spent a month on loan at Boston in October and came off the bench to score with headers in both the games he played in(BSN league games V Workington 2-1 & Droylsden). The Pilgrims were unable to offer the lad further terms and reluctantly sent him back to Chesterfield when the loan expired.
David Holdsworth had him on the radar but Lincoln never followed through (SEE STMI Jan 21012 HERE as Moerecambe came in during the January 2012 window with an 18 month deal. Jordan got four that season in ten starts and nine from the bench. The following season saw one goal from 12 starts plus another 22 from the bench in league 1. The move to Stevenage, on a free, last season was also a tough time as he struggled to break into the side starting 10, getting 12 opportunies as a sub and splinters from 40 views from the bench.
Simmo has given the 21-year-old goal machine his wings, by giving him a shoulder to rest on and the belief that he can score goals at this level. He could well prove himself in the division above in time too, but England duty and the seventh Lincoln cruscade to retake League status is the focus for now.
