Imps Sign 20-Goal Striker!

Former Mansfield Town, Bristol City, Northampton Town, Kidderminster Harriers and Tamworth left sided forward  Nick Wright has sensationally signed for Simmo’s Six-foot Sincil Soldiers on a one-year deal. The wide-boy goal machine should send season ticket sales sailing past the 1,100-1200 mark in his own right, but he is not the target man we seek….  suggesting another –  rumouredpaid for -striker is also close to signing! But Nick could still bag 20 in his own right, not seen hereabouts since Simon Yeo, in what seems the days of Yore!

Simmo has finally bagged his man after chasing the lad since we ran the who is Nick Wright story back on May 4th – just after Cox incredibly deemed Wright wrong for League 2. Simmo’s interest cooled when a move to the Harriers  came into the equation, but after waiting in the wings, he swooped for what has to be regarded as something of a coup. Left out by Cox who had Green, Nick was the fastest player at the Stags to the frustration of a true goal machine. At 6’3″ he has it all, with a turn of pace that will roast most of the Conference’s big old oaks.

Nick bagged 17 goals in all competitions playing on the left for Kidderminster, suggesting he could be both poacher and gamekeeper for the Imps. Simmo likes a front 3, but has a penchant for the continental 4-2-3-1 formation where two defensive midfielders allow those in front to fly freely.

The understanding is that another out-and-out centre forward is still on the verge of joining once a fee can be thrashed out with another BSP club.

Brilliant signing welcome aboard Nick!……….Oh Nicky Wright! Wright! Wright!

Striker Back On Radar

Former Mansfield striker Nick Wright has failed to agree a deal with Kidderminster Harriers. Burr is however awash with wingers following the arrival of James Dance from Luton Town and Dior Angus from Solihull now that Marvin Johnson has agreed to extend his stay. The Harriers have also signed midfielder Jamie Tolley from Shrewsbury Town, but are said to still be interested in the striker. After Cox deemed Wright wrong for League 2, Simmo’s interest cooled when a move to the Harriers  came into the equation, but after waiting in the wings, he could well swoop should the Harriers discard their prey.

Burr is hoping that he can land another couple of deals before July, but Wright, who played for the Harriers before moving to the Stags, has been holding out for a deal with a League 2 club that appears to have fallen through.  The biggest obstacle for the Imps will be the wages. If Kidderminster are still interested we can’t afford to get into a Dutch auction with one of the moneybags clubs of the division, however they no longer seem to be.

When we ran the who is Nick Wright story back on May 4th, Nuneaton and Tamworth also seemed to be interested. Simmo’s interest appeared to cease when money club Kidderminster  became involved, but after waiting in the wings, he may get a belated last look. The competition is not so tough and perhaps the pull of returning to his roots may not have as big an influence if Kidderminster’s cash is not involved. The Lambs may be nearer home and also be a former club, but they have strengthened in that area and like Nuneaton are almost up to their budget. Simmo however has the funds spare and has been boosted by the fee for Oliver from Crewe.

The manager is back from a holiday/European scouting mission this Thursday and could well follow up his earlier interest in Wright sooner rather than later. Nick is not just a 6’3″ target man as he can also play on either flank, should Simmo have done a deal for this mystery striker and midfielder on the continent.  Tried and trusted closer to home Nick is from the Midlands, having gone through the ranks at Birmingham before dropping down to Tamworth where he found the goal touch. However with the Imps now offering accommodation as part of the deal to the North-West based lads, Nick may pack his Mansfield suitcase and head straight down the A57 to become the Imps new goal machine.

Who Is Nick Wright?

Mansfield feel former Kidderminster Harriers and Tamworth striker Nick Wright will not be good enough for the Football League next year. Cox signed the 25 year old last season.  Gary Simpson is in the market for another two strikers and could make enquiries for 6′ 3″ bustling forward before he returns to Brum with Tamworth or Nuneaton looking favourite to sign him.

Nick can play on either flank as well as in the target man or supporting striker role. Although he failed to break into the first team squad at Birmingham Nick saw loan deals with the Lambs, Northampton Town, Ashford and Bristol City.   He signed for the lambs upon his release from Birmingham in 2007 and bagged 13 and 10 respectively in his first two seasons. He was a massive part of the promotion side that made it back into the BSP in 2008/9 delivering as many assists as goals. The first season back was a steep learning curve  with Gary Mills leaving him out of the side before transfer listing him at the end of the 2009-10 season. Local rivals Kidderminster stepped in and he bagged 8 in 2010/11 and 15 in 2011/12, despite  half his appearances coming from the bench. It was of some surprise that Cox took him to Mansfield at the beginning of the season.
