Millers Making His Mind Up Then?

Tom Miller does not appear to be going to Wycombe Wanderers FC  after all. The former Norwich City, Rangers and Newport County midfielder come defender has been pivotal in the Imps battle to beat the drop.   By his own admission he enjoyed the run-in last season and the Bank brave-heart’s award for away player of the season 2012/13, was richly deserved. Thankfully a lack of any official bids does seem to suggest that he will join close pal, Andrew Boyce, in signing a new two year deal at the Imps after the completion of he and the manager’s holidays.  That will be fantastic news for Imps scurrying to purchase discounted season tickets.

Thank you for reading Neil Gentleman-Hobbs

Tom is a hero and together with Andrew and Nat Brown, the Imps look set for a terrific season next term. A utility defender/midfielder with a throw like a javelin, Tom epitomise the none-shall-pass, never say die, attitude of the Sincil Six-foot Soldiers along with Boycey. These two throw life and limb on the line for the whole 90 minutes, week in week out.  So does Dan Gray and Brownie, suggesting our back-four are Sincil Bank brave-hearts,  dependable Dogs of War home and away.

Come on Tom, you are our heartbeat, sign and be the inspiration for the Rise of The Imps.

Stags Champs But Welsh Football’s golden era to Continue As Swansea & Cardiff Show Wrexham & Newport The Way.

In a great year for Welsh football with Swansea City winning the Capital Cup and Cardiff  City finally joining the Premiership, there could yet be an all-Welsh Blue Square semi final, or better still Final.  A reversal of type perhaps, more Red in the Blue as opposed to the change from blue to red for Cardiff, to decide who will join the Stags in The Football League. The Stags, very much at the height of a rutting season, eye victory over Wrexham this evening, in front of an expectant 7,000 crowd, to pip Kidderminster to the title even if they beat Stockport. But if Grimsby then beat Newport, they will ensure two more games against the Exiles in the Play-offs. An all-Welsh final then to ice a great year for Wales with either shaped ball, after Wrexham took the FA Trophy home on penalties last month and England were burned by the Dragons at the Arms Park.

Have you signed our 3 up 3 down petition HERE yet? Thank you for reading Neil Gentleman-Hobbs

Logo Kidderminsterbadge.pngFile:Newport County crest.pngWrexham FC.png   Grimb Badge.png

The Stags have sold every home ticket (just over 6,000) with The Dragons set to take around a thousand.  But even though the Dragons came from a goal down to win 2-1 just 16 days ago, surely lightning cannot strike twice? The Dragons beat the Harriers by the same score on Tuesday, with Kidderminster now entertaining a Stockport side desperate for a win to stand any chance of staying in the League. That the Hatters and Lincoln are vying to avoid a drop into the BSN is testament to the shocking shambles at both clubs.

Grimsby entertain Newport, with both guaranteed a play-off berth. Yet even a point for the Mariners would be enough to see them play each other in the play-off semi finals, if as STMI reckon, the Dragons lose against the Stags. Newport are the form side suggesting an all Welsh semi, but the Mariners magnificent support and mean defence are both worth at least a goal start.

Norwich, Rangers & Newport But Miller The Imp Still Travels Well

Tom Miller the former Norwich City, Rangers and Newport County midfielder come defender has been pivotal in the Imps battle to beat the drop.  His award for away player of the season 2012/13 is therefore well deserved. STMI gives a brief bio on the lad’s career and season.

Badge of Norwich City

A brief bio then………….

Tom was spotted in the local Cambridgeshire Sunday minor Leagues via the legendary Canaries scouting network (club legend and former Imp coach John Deehan has long been recommending lads to a veritable conveyor belt of talent). Tom joined at 14 and progressed through the ranks at the Colney Training centre to become Norwich City Academy player of the season, in 2008. But it was not to be, in then manager Glenn Roeder’s eyes. as a first year pro deal failed to materialise.

Jim Duffy, the then assistant manager, contacted Rangers when it was evident that Tom would not get what many felt should have been a deserved opportunity in the game.  He was flown up to Ibrox and had an outstanding trial game, making a telling contribution all over the pitch in a 5-1 win. Rangers gave him a two year contract to the delight of his proud father Ray. The Rangers side of the time was still a tough nut to crack, suffering financially, after the Souness overspend.

With big changes imminent, he was paid up in February 2010, moving across the water to Dundalk.  Irish football is a tough baptism to say the least, but Tom got one goal and, cards and accreditations in equal measure, in 32 appearances before Newport signed him in January 2011 before being released a year later with the Imps waiting in the wings.

Lincoln City F.C. badge.png

Tom is a true utility man. He has played at full-back and centre-back this season even though he is a defensive midfielder by trade. His one goal two assists and 9 yellow cards show the tenacity and none shall pass mantra that has been evident since inspirational desplays in the wins against Hayes (2-1 click4report) and Tamworth (4-0 click4report) last season. How fitting that his award came before the Lambs game on Saturday (see GREAT ESCAPE 2012/13).  As ever he was brilliant making 3 last ditch must win challenges that ensure we are still in with a fighting chance this week, instead of down and into the BSN abyss.

Brilliant Tom, take a bow son

Newport County – The Top Of The Table Form Of The Foe

Having raided Luton Town twice for Aaron O’Connor & Danny Crow and Bradford City for Michael Flynn, Newport County AFC top the table with the Euromillions funds still to come next week.  O’Connor has already bagged three with Lincoln striker Jefferson Louis on two plus an assist.  New boys Crow and Thompson have already set up two apeice with the  Exiles averaging four a game so far with Mansfield Town amongst their scalps.  Could their return from the dead continue with yet another promotion? This is a test indeed for the Imps.

Newport Away – New Ground Guide & Ticketing Details

For those Imps heading to Newport County AFC, here are the directions, ground guide and ticketing details. This one does not look straightforward as the recent ground share means specific segregation details and availability of terracing is unavailable on the Exciles official site.  Further, although there is no cash admission at the turnstiles,  you can pay on the day (see below for details). Hopefully the Official Lincoln City site will pass on news asap.

(Most recent first) Trialist keeper Lenny Pidgeley pens a one-year deal after an impressive pre-season,another trialist, ex Cardiff City full-back Ben Swallow should also get a deal. Great news on the financial front as Euromillions winner Les Scadding plus 4 other businessman are set to join board on 20th August at the AGM.

Edinburgh wants another keeper. Midfielder Michael Flynn signs from Bradford a decade after last playing for the Exiles. Manager Justin Edinburgh signs a new contract to 2013/14. Newport chairman Chris Blight quits the club, after ten years, claiming to have received a series of abusive phone calls over the weekend. He will relinquish his place on the Board of the Football Conference with immediate effect. Released striker Jake Reid has joined AFC Telford United whilst ex-exile keeper Thompson looks set to join Worcester City.

Edinburgh wants 4 more to complete the jigsaw. Three ex-Neath players (they were wound up last month) Kerry Morgan, Chris Jones and Sam Gwynne are on trial. Striker Danny Crow in from Luton Max Porter has agreed a one-year extention. Newport cannot play in the Welsh Cup this season after just one season back in the competition. Latest gossip – Danny Lloyd-McGoldrick leaves amidst wage demands storm that even sees our esteemed local paper delete an internet story (according to now dead links on Lincoln City Banter)  suggesting he was asking for too much money. All STMI can say at the current time is that Danny was in no way greedy, he is a smashing and talented lad and we wish him all the best elsewhere, except when he is playing us.  C’est la vie.  Holdsworth admits the cupboard is bare after accounting for the smallest budget for 40 years – £400k. Squad will comprise 21 as opposed to 23 (inc 5 youth team promotions) unless the renaming raffle brings in substantial funds. This appears may have galvanised the fans with season tickets moving up from 165 and 227 and counting in just two working days.
