Simmo Striker Search Boosted By Brackley

FC Halifax will play Brackley for the right to play in the BSP next season and that is good news for the Imps as Brackley’s 3-0 defeat of Altrincham (4-2 Agg) will allow Gary Simpson to swoop for striker Duncan Watmore. Damian Reeves meanwhile could end up at Scunthorpe United, now owned (bar any Queensbury Rules legal challenge), as big fan Peter Swann aims to shoot the iron back up the League.

Ex-Imp Jefferson Louis continues to help the Imps cause, with the first, to tie the semi at 2-2, in the fourth minute. Izaac Reid made it two on 26 before Glenn Walker rounded off the rout just after half-time.

Simmo will now surely give Alty gaffer Lee Sinnott a call as soon as the dust settles.  He saw hot-shot Damian Reeves and Duncan Watmore play in a 2-0 win over FC Halifax a couple of weeks ago.  Duncan managed 14 goals in his debut season and has phenomenal pace, a great touch and can dribble, suggesting he can adapt to the variety of formations Simmo likes to play.

Reeves, on the other hand, will be too rich for our blood. We are unlikely to tempt him from a relatively lucrative deal, with the additional flexibility  of a part-time regime that allows outside interests. Trinity tried but failed with a four figure a week plus deal for a player that has notched over 40 goals  in the last two seasons. But at 27, a crack at the Football League and a long overdue pay-day courtesy of Swann’s millions, would do very nicely indeed. The Iron could also pay a fee, as Altrincham may need to cash in on an ongoing contract after failing to go up.

Reeves & Watmore On The Radar Then

Gary Simpson was at the Altrincham V FC Halifax game on Wednesday, stirring speculation that the Imps could be in for either Damian Reeves or Duncan Watmore. The two have shared a fifty-five goal partnership this season, with Reeves on 41 and Watmore on 14 in his first full season.  Gainsborough had failed to tempt Reeves last season, suggesting money is not the primary motivating factor for the 27 year old who scores for fun.

According to a valued source over the years, Simmo was amongst a posse of scouts at the game. He was also overheard discussing the performance of Reeves and Watmore.  Reeves on for the season had a quiet game by his standards but Watmore, just 19, looks a ready made replacement for Jamie Taylor.  He has phenomenal pace a great touch and can dribble, suggesting he can adapt to the variety of formations Simmo likes to play.

Two other Altrincham players, winger Nicky Clee and left-back Matt Doughty, also stood out and are therefore worthy of a mention.  On 68, the overlapping defender, exchanged passes before placing a right-foot drive beyond the keeper.  If Simmo cannot tempt Tony Diagne to stay, Doughty would be a versatile two-footed full-back, although at 32 he could be a gamble.  Left winger Nicky Clee also looked useful, grabbing the 48th minute opener in the 2-0 win.  His 20 yard left-foot crisp drive after a one-two set Alty on their way to a play-off confrontation with Guisely or big spending Brackley in the play-offs.

Question is will the Imps meet one of these four in opposition next season, or will they be lining up for Simmo’s resurgent Imps?

Gillingham after 44 Goal Reeves

Gillingham appear to be interested in Altrincham forward Damian Reeves.  The 26-year old forward scored 44 goals in the Blue Square North last season and another in the FA Trophy.

The goal machine has scored 63 goals in his last 79 starts and 12 substitute appearances and starts every game believing he can score.  Who can blame him with that track record.  Martin Allen is believed to be about to make a move if someone does not get in first…… Morecambe are set to play there this week, hopefully they will remember to bring a brick wall but forget the cheque book
