Former Barnsley, Accrington, Hereford United and Lincoln City central defender Kern Miller has signed for Boston United on a one year deal after a successful trial. Hopefully it will signal an upturn after a couple of unsettling and indeed painful years for the 20-year-old.
Many felt ex-youth Kern did not get a decent opportunity, making just the one appearance for us in a 2-0 win at Accrington. He then signed for Barnsley for free after being released by Chris Sutton in the 2011 winter window. The promising youngster was loaned out to Accy for valuable match experience but broke his jaw after just three appearances, when set upon by a group of unknown assailants in Blackpool. Hereford took him on loan, never played him yet still offered him a deal… and then never played him. Instead Kern was forced to look around the non-league after signing for three League clubs in the same season.
Gainsborough gave him a deal until the end of the season but he was not good enough to get passed Boyce and Waterfall and ended up on loan at Worksop. Trinity showed no interest on his return, but Boston have snapped the ex-Imp up after impressing against Sleaford Town & Rainworth Miners Welfare.
