Imps V Mariners – Teams Schemes & Screams

Scunthorpe United clawed back Boyce, an inadvertent favour there surely given little rumoured love between the chairs.  But Grimsby Town still have ex-Imp LJL and the backing of 1800 merry Mariners, as they set the trawler ashore, once more,  at rabbit-in-the-headlights Sincil Bank. Indeed, the black and white will bite, eager to smite and continue an 11-match unbeaten run against their nearest and dearest Lincolnshire rivals.  The Imps, meanwhile and, dare I use the word fortunately, care not for history, nor a three match barren spell that has cast them asunder and down to fourteenth, seven blow their Fishy foe..  Hero Hamza, will be back in the middle amidst the heat of battle, determined to defend the faith against the indigenous Imp County infidel aiming to rock the six foot Sincil soldiers Kazbar on Tuesday night.   Sincil Bank Salivates…………..

The challenge:

Not only have the Mariners been scoring goals recently, but the defence is meaner than a Uruguayan striker with a fresh collarbone.  Up front Pitmann is willing if not able ensuring that ex-Imp LJL and Hannah will vie for the other spot.  The wide threat from Neilson and McLauchlin also suggests there will be plenty of ammo for the front two, as well as the referee – who will hopefully use common sense when trying to keep a lid on things.

Lincoln thankfully welcome back Brown to the heart of the defence of the Imp realm, allowing Hamza to windmill his way through the Lincolnshire equivalent of middle earth in the Yellow belly derby.  Midfield matadors Clay and Brown will doubtless look forward to the contest, where beauty very often tames the beast.  Who wouldn’t with pace galore, blood guts gore, banter and more, on show in varying quantities for sure. For, this is one that normally sees a high tempo to match the octane levels one associates with a derby keenly contested since 3 January 1884.  The people’s game in the people’s Premiership where passion will never fall from fashion.  So its ten since a win is it? Then again it has been 800 years since the cathedral City bishop turned the Imp to stone. They do say patience is a virtue …. Sincil Salivates…………..

  7. Great stats and preview as ever. Genuinely pleased to see STMI back on the Conference scene. Shame you are still banned from your own team.

  8. Losing the home end really hits home when the old enemy fill it. Come on Imps win it and at least keep them quiet tomorrow night
