Lincoln V Torquay The Teams, Schemes & Romantic Impish Dreams

Torquay United a team with a penchant for drawing, adjusting to life back in the Conference aka The People’s Premiership. A humorous place where pre-match pints are plentiful, safe from the rapacious realm of the League. Then again the money clubs oft do dominate against the spirited part-time sides, for, this is where any man with the cash for a van – can.  In the second chance Sincil Bank saloon, we Imps have started to fall in love with our club again. Having wiped away the tears, polished our horns and filed our hooves,  sons and daughters of Imdom again make for the San Sincil each week anticipating better things. Is it a dream, why no and it got better on POETS day as Sam-Yorke reported for duty at four.

Mmmm Sincil Salivates…………..

The challenge:

The on-fire Imps face ex-League opposition Torquay United , a side adjusting to the Division, but, boo-hiss – unbeaten since opening day. After the opener, a 1-3 reverse baptism of fire at fancied Gateshead, the  clipped Gulls have beaten whipping boys Welling and, drawn three games, including a blood guts and bruising battle that saw more cards than Christmas, Gulls-wise 3 yellows and a red for Bowman. He will miss the last of his three games (violent conduct) against City but there is plenty more to worry about from the footballing cream of East Devon.

Chris Hargreaves has fashioned a strong and robust side that have become draw specialists.  Very much a conventional 4-4-2 the two wingers are quick and skilful. Chapel is an ex-Blade and Cameron started out at Northampton, was pinched by Villa at a young age then sold to Rotherham.  Cameron leads the goal charts (2) and the assists (2). So the Gulls are pacey and tricky out wide, but, they are also big and strong and quick up top. The front two Imps will be familiar with  in Acheampong (Barnet) and Ajala (Welling) with the latter playing off the former, the two can be a handful for Brownie & Diagne.

The full-backs will have problems against Newton and Caprice, but then who hasn’t this season thus far. We will be missing Hamza, although there are plenty of options including Ledsham who appears fully fit again. Tomlinson and Burrow will give Downes and Ives a torrid time.  That said the duo are a decent centre-back pairing but the pace of the trio running from deep, is not the cosmopolitan formation they are used to dealing with.

It will be an interesting game between two counter-attacking sides, with any result possible.  Hats off to any Gulls who make a very long trip indeed.
