Teams, Schemes, Stats and A Braintree Battle For The Resurgent Imps.
Jordan Burrow is two in two, equalling his last two terms hauls at Stevenage FC and Morecambe FC , as is Massey, who should be a familiar name in these parts. But after Altrincham and Barnet FC back to back away wins, we Imps are back at the unbeaten Bank to battle Braintree Town. Together with the 0-0 against Kidderminster Harriers in the season’s opener, the Imps sit sixth with the Iron an unlucky thirteenth. But these are early days, where stats startle and that doubtless proves the point, or three, that football matches are contested and won on the field. League tables mean nothing when the Imps away form sees us top of the pile, whilst our home form puts us 17th and our Iron foe 19th on away current form. So its close then and, with the teams and schemes and stats to follow fortune will favour the brave over 90 minutes tomorrow. Mmmm Sincil Salivates…………..

With the giant and prolific Sean Marks up front with Walker from Hereford, Brown and Diagne will need to be on the ‘tippiest of their toes’. Caprice must quell Daniel Sparks, the sorcerer southpaw, mercurial and more than able to deliver a knockout it seems, with two assists in his first three outings of the season. Centre-back Massey, a name well-known name on Lincolnshire’s agricultural plains, has top scored with two headers so far this season, but play-maker Davis really pulls the strings in midfield and, has thus far pitched in with a penalty and plenty more besides.
In the red corner, Impdon might just dare to dream. Our own lefty, Sean Newton, is on fire down the flank, suggesting Peters pace could be put to the test, as he aims to add to his three assists in two games. Joyous Jordan Burrow has plundered two of them although Tommo, yet to get off the mark, is not about to handover the crown as goal king at Sincil bank, despite coming from deeper this season.
In the engine room Hamza Bencherif will be stoking the boiler alongside Nolan, a duet akin to beauty and the beast, that could be the spine of the Imps determination to return to the League despite the financial odds. Simmo’s six foot soldiers may be paupers in many ways, but they taught the comparably bejewelled princes of North London a lesson last time out. This despite having to travel down on the day in their own motors, after a mysterious coach mix up to boot. Win this and get a point at top dogs Halifax and Lincoln could have a taste for more than jelly babies this season.
Then again Braintree has a pedigree for passion and upsetting the odds, finishing 6th last season, despite a meagre budget. Devonshire and Simmo it appears can both make silk purses from sows ears, but then they need to in this the people’s Premier League.
