The loan of Doug Bergqvist (Exeter City) and Blain Hudson (Cambridge United) has given young Welling United manager Jamie Day a spine of steel allowing United to go out and play some skilful, passing open football as well as shocking a few into the bargain. Everyone rated Welling and their inexperienced manager as relegation fodder, but if the small squad can avoid too many injuries they could be there or thereabouts this season.
