Is Newton Best Left Back In Skrill Premier?

Simmo’s Stockport County summer capture Sean Newton is turning out to be the best left back Lincoln have had for a decade.  Not since the days of cultured warrior Stuart Bimson have the Imps been blessed by such a dervish down the left flank.

On Saturday Newton or ‘Newts’ to his team-mates had to deal with Vaughan and Lolley, by far his toughest test to date and he still delivered at both ends of the pitch. Lincoln may have lost 4-1 but Newton competed with two other stars of the division. Lolley had scouts from Wednesday, Millwall and Peterborough in the stands and Vaughan has to be a contender for right back of the season.  Jordan beat Gowling in the air, time after time, but the defenders natural spring saw him win every header against Todd who is 4 inches taller.

Newton, now 24 is coming to his peak,  a fans favourite wherever he goes he has already been credited with 5 assists and looks set to eclipse his performances at Stockport County, for whom he was an inspiration in a struggling side that were ultimately relegated.  He is one of those players that gets one off one’s seat, the purists left back, that  has created so many opportunities with his corner, crosses and free kicks.  Yet to score in the League, his free-kicks will make us swoon as he traditionally  gets plenty of goals for a full-back. Sean got 6 last season as well as netting 12 in 109 outings for Telford. At 20 and still waiting for his key to the door, he got an England C call, playing twice and scoring the once.

Stockport asked for a try before we buy loan, loved him and made him a permanent fixture last summer, before Simmo stepped in almost as soon as the last ball was kicked.  Newton was eager to sign, putting ambition over money with County offering more than the Imps put on the table. However he and we know his destiny is higher, with a tempting bid only a matter of time.  A decent cup run and a play-off surge however could keep him.  As could a target man to turn his silver service into some golden goals.
