Imps Facing Yellow Peril

Ahead of the Aldershot Town game, with Kidderminster Harriers and the FA Cup also on the horizon, two key Imps are now just one yellow card away from a ban with another vital piece of the jigsaw  just two away. There is also some dispute over whether Ben Tomlinson will be banned for reaching 5, even though STMI can only find four so far in the League.

Sean Newton and Ben Tomlinson picked a yellow apiece last night to move to four for the season, just one card away from a one match ban.  Tom Miller is now up to three for the season suggesting the slender Imps squad are walking a tight-rope after some less than favourable refereeing decisions.  However it appears that both Miller and Tomlinson have received an additional yellow card each, which must have come in either a friendly or Lincs Cup match.  This means Tommo will face a one game ban on Saturday with two Imps still walking the tightrope on four. So far only Power has served a ban for his red that many also felt was  heavy handed.

Thus far – in the League that is – the Imps have accumulated twenty-two yellow cards and one red and attracted an unfair bull-boy tag. That particular headline on a Hereford site ran the day before a referee dished out five cautions, over a quarter of the total prior to last night, in a game that saw the Bulls get away very lightly indeed. Lincoln, far from dirty, do have cover in a well balanced squad unless injuries also play a part.

The card-count

Player Cautions
Newton 4
Tomlinson 4
Miller 3
Rowe 2
Jordan 2
Foster 1
Power 1
Boyce 1
Yussuf 1
Gray 1
Nolan 1
Sheridan 1

Reds
Power 1

Fortunately the manager has assembled a well-balanced squad, despite working on a shoestring budget that will ultimately lessen the strength in depth at his disposal. Simmo has cover for both full-backs, with Dan Gray more than capable and arguably good enough to start in any League 2 or Conference side.  Jordan can also play at left-back and Foster acts as a defensive stalwart anywhere on the park.

Scoring goals could however prove to be a problem with Tomlinson head and shoulders above his taller peers.  Newton and Miller have also delivered heavily in the assist department, although Dan Gray also has the long throw to match the herculean Miller.
