Lincoln 3 Hyde 0 Dixon Does Hand Of God
Hyde have now gone 56 games without a clean sheet and despite some decent spells of pressure they would be undone by the Imps in a game of two halves. But let us not get too ahead of our selves………………………
For the benefit of Hyde fans visiting STMI for the first time , first the Teams & schemes then a blow by blow followed by more stats than you can shake an Imp or Tiger at, thanks for reading Neil Gentleman-Hobbs.

To the game fellow football fans to the game……………
Hyde kick off and are the first to press but Nolan is quickly into the challenge. Brizell is fouled but gain no advantage and Farman gathers. A great exchange between Jordan and Tomlinson finds Miller but the delivery is cleared by Haining. Wright beats one but Brizell slides in to end the danger. Hyde are knocking the ball around nicely but give Blakeman too much to do down the channel.
A great run from Newton finds Wright who beats his man, checks back to Newton, but his ball is beyond Tomlinson and Power, coming in at the far post. Liversedge punches a Miller cross clear as the Imps continue to press. Jordan plays to Tomlinson who hooks a snap-shot wide. Nat Brown clears Devaney’s cross after a decent one-two with Tomsett. Power robs Griffin, gets clear and bombs down the channel, but his cross cannot beat first man Ashworth who clears with Wright and Tomlinson lurking.
Hyde’s Brown gets stuck in and fouls Tomlinson and the tallest referee in Christendom tells him the next one will see him booked after his earlier challenge on Nolan. Ashworth’s header confuses Liversedge but they get away with a corner. Brizell gets forward, turns inside Jordan but his shot is straight down Farman’s throat. Tomlinson roasts Griffin but his ball to the near post is cleared for a throw by Haining. Miller’s throw causes panic but Boyce cannot direct his header to force a save. The two centre-backs aside the Imps certainly have a height advantage but Hyde are the ones enjoying the possession without really hurting the Imps as Farman easily deals with a shot from Collins.
Wright shows his pace twice, first Liversedge is out to gather and then his cross is just beyond Tomlinson who is also showing a turn of pace that is worrying the Tigers back four. Boyce loops a header that the keeper manages to get a fingertip to for another corner. Power’s ball finds Jordan who is inches from making the contact that would surely have given Lincoln the lead. Newton on the overlap gets a great cross in to the feet of Tomlinson but Wright nudges Ashworth and the whistle goes. Boyce brilliantly robs Spencer who is about to pull the trigger.
Fofana has a dig of sorts and Liversedge saves easily before a glorious twenty-five yard drive from Devaney beats Farman and the right-hand post. A great 5 man Lincoln move down the right finds Power but Ashworth gets ahead of Wright for a corner. Powers corner falls to Newton who hits one but Haining clears off the line and the keeper gathers in. A great flick from Jordan finds Newton, who advances and fizzes across low but with Tomlinson and Wright sliding in, both agonisingly just fail to get a touch. Collins direct free-kick forces a save from a Farman to end a positive half for the visitors.
Both sides keep the faith as the Imps kick off towards the empty Stacey West. The urgency is evident and although Ashworth handles under pressure from Tomlinson the Imps win a corner. Newton delivers a beauty, Tomlinson challenges the keeper and, between his header and the keeper’s punch, the ball flies into the net. Tomlinson rightly claims and gets it and the Imps clearly now have the scent and are passing the ball confidently. The goal is clearly what the largely inert first half badly needed. A brilliant ball from Newton finds Wright and he is away delivering a super cross that is just too high for Tomlinson, but the sprightly Newton even gets forward to put the ball out for a goal-kick.
Brown releases Wright who is away again, he checks and plays to Jordan, who feeds Nolan and the Imps win another corner. A terrific delivery from Newton finds Boyce who heads just over the bar. Nolan takes too many touches allowing. A great ball from Jordan falls to Wright who again beats his man but just cannot get a cross in. On 56 Dieseruwve comes on for Blakeman as Hyde attempt to get something from the game. A brilliant bit of control from Boyce sees him feed Nolan but he cannot get the shot away under pressure from Haining.
Fofana gets disposed and a shot from Devaney is deflected for a corner by Brown. The corner finds Haining who hammers one toward the top left but Farman palms away for another corner. Hyde have the bit between their teeth and have the Imps on the rack as Collins fires an 18 yard drive against the post. Nolan takes too many touches on the edge of the box allowing Collins to get a shot in but Farman is again easily equal to it. Wright gets behind Brizell but Haining denies his cross at the expense of a corner before Dixon comes on for Jordan and two minutes later Foster comes on for Fofana.
Some great football from Jordan, Nolan and Power finds Tomlinson, but he takes a touch too many and Ashworth clears the danger. Almond comes on for Collins as McNiven goes for pace. Brown makes two great clearances under pressure as the Imps continue to weather the gamely Hyde passing game that is leaving the visitors susceptible to the counter. One such break sees Tomlinson run forty yards before Haining gets a superb saving tackle in. Hyde win a corner but again the ball is cleared giving Tomlinson a chance to chase but this time earn a corner. Power’s corner is deep and true allowing Dixon to rise supremely to head in at the far post.
Brizell has an optimistic effort that goes straight into Farman’s gloves before a double save from Farman denies two Dieseruwve efforts. With 5 minutes to go Sheridan comes on for Wright as Simmo looks to see the game out with a clean sheet and Poole comes on for Devaney. The tireless Newton however, still has the energy to get up to force a corner that will lead to some late controversy. Power sends over an inviting one, all the big lads challenge and Dixon touches home the third. Sheridan and Tomsett then got a yellow apiece for a tussle in the 95th minute to end the game. However if the Tiger’s reactions are anything to go by he handled it into the net. It is tough on a side who have given it their all but do not look as if they can buy a goal anywhere at the moment.
