Power Penalty Mystery
It was of some surprise that Captain Alan Power did not take last night’s penalty against Southport FC, particularly as he got the winner in a vital 1-0 win over the Sandgrounders from the spot last season
Vic Erzantarz investigates on a clearly quiet news day.
Power scored 11 goals last season, of which six were struck firmly and confidently from the spot. Alan then got the perhaps the most decisive penalty of all in the home game against Tamworth to put us 2-1 up and, in so doing banished those relegation fears. He followed it up with another to give us the lead on the final day at Hyde to pave the way for the five goal romp that saved our Lincolnshire bacon in style. Alan also did the honours against Grimsby, Hereford and of course Southport – a day re also really needed the points.
So it was of some surprise to see Wright take last nights penalty and miss given Power was expecting to take it along with most of the bench who no he never misses. Perhaps in true captain’s fashion he wanted Wright to get off the mark to spark his confidence after a long lay-off, But according the manager in his post match interview Power will be taking them in future after Wright saw his effort down the middle saved by the keepers legs.
