A Scott Rendell Or Will New Ground Come First?
Current Luton Town and former Wycombe Wanderers, Oxford Utd, Cambridge Utd and Crawley Town target man Scott Rendell is available for loan after manager John Still announced that 6′ 1″ is not going to fit in with his plans. This has alerted a posse of clubs, to the misfit who had to endure transfer day heartbreak after a mystery club failed to come up with the transfer fee.
With our previous big lad starting to score at Crewe and The Imps failing to break down Salisbury due to a plan B, the 6′ 1″ 12st 4 powerhouse could be just what the Imps are looking for. With rumours circulating around the forums that the Imps have found land for a new stadium (allegedly behind Morrisons), the question is what comes first the team or the stadium?
Rendell does not fit into Still’s plans despite a credible 12 strikes in 32 starts and 10 substitute appearances since moving from Wycombe in the summer of 2012. He bagged 17 from 27 starts for Wanders. Rendell would be the perfect supporting striker having got 12 for Torquay the season before and 15 for Cambridge UTD having returned to them on loan after an unsuccessful spell at Posh, who laid out £115,000 for his services.
Question is will the loan budget stretch to him and if why not? Season ticket sales are up crowds looking promising and even enough confidence around the place to fund plans for a move.
The team is the heart of the football club and a £400k budget does not suggest that given a ground sale will surely generate millions and change if we are only going to end up with a soulless 4-5,000 capacity ground. It will be fit for purpose, but what purpose if the funds are not going to a team that might fill it back in the Football League. Surely this season is the best opportunity for promotion for half a decade, so the priority has to be to get a plan B in before its too late?. These should be the sort of questions the critical friend must start asking, Otherwise the great share give-away wont be the only thing to take the fans by surprise.
