Dartford 1 Lincoln 2 Imps Go Marching On! On! On!
The Imps win at Dartford sees us stay a point behind Cambridge United, Barnet and Nuneaton who beat Grimsby Town 2-1 at Blundell Park. It was another great team performance against a strong fightback from a valiant Dartford side, but let us not get too ahead of ourselves.
For the benefit of visiting Darts, first the Teams & schemes then a blow by blow followed by more stats than you can shake an Imp or Dart at, thanks for reading Neil Gentleman-Hobbs.

To the game fellow football fans to the game……………
The Imps look a big side compared to the hosts and get into the challenges early. Dartford are looking to try to boss it but Fofana is a man possessed. A smart counter sees Rowe stab down the keepers throat. A Fairhurst side-foot to Rowe sees keeper Julian palm for a corner. The Imps force two successive corners but Sterling deals with the first and Clark the heads the second clear. Right-back Burns roasts Rowe and crosses but Bradbrook’s drive is wide. Bradbury finds Harris but Brown gets to him and clears for a corner. Noble’s corner is half cleared by Boyce and Woodyard fires over.
The Darts have weathered the Imps early storm and are now very much a part of an exciting end to end game. Rowe and Nolan exchange neatly but Fofana miss-controls and allows Bradbury to get the ball to Woodyard who feeds Burns. The full-back overlaps but Brown heads his decent cross clear. Burns gets beyond Newton again but Boyce is there to head clear again. Harris has a crack but Farman saves well and Newton takes the spills off the foot of Birchall who was coming in for the kill.
Newton gets forward and crosses to Rowe who forces a save from Julian. Newton’s corner finds Foster on the edge of the 18-yard box. Foster shoots, Julian parries onto the post but Thomlinson feeds on the scraps to stab home a trademark poacher finish – his third in two games. Dartford start hitting long which is meat and drink to Boyce who heads a Julian punt away.
A superb peel from Boyce finds Newton who roasts the Darts right but Bradbrook beats Thomlinson to it and clears. Fry flies down the left and delivers a glorious cross but Boyce is there again to clear. Woodyard also sends in a great ball but Farman claims well. A wonderful cameo sees Fairhurst beat two and win a corner. Rowe delivers Boyce heads goalwards, Julian saves, but Boyce lashes home with a vengeance.
The Imps height and physical presence at set-pieces looks too much for the Darts and our mangle is strangling their ability to play their natural game. Fry plays a decent through ball but Miller cleverly handles and escapes a card. Sterling’s free kick fails to find a head and goes through for a goal-kick. Another Dartford set-piece sees Noble’s free-kick find Sterling but his header flashes wide. Noble brilliantly blocks a Rowe drive then Fry earns a card for a foul on Fofana, its frustration for our colossus has been all over the place and quick into the challenge again today. It gets better the Cods are two down at home to Nuneaton.
Both sides keep the faith with the Imps weathering a succession of Dartford forays, Fairhurst gets in behind the defence but the ball does not quite run for him and Clark clears. A neat move from the Imps, Fofana robs Bradbrook, he plays to Rowe, who passes to Nolan but Thomlinson . Rowe gets a yellow for dissent after a decent challenge is ruled foul. Another great run from Newton sees Burns block yet a goal-kick is given. Newton is having another fabulous game for the Imps.
Fairhurst gets beyond the defence but Julian is out well to end any danger. Hayes replaces Rogers as Burman looks to ring the changes. The Darts are having a purple patch, Harris shoots but Farman saves and holds. The game is scrappy and one has to feel the next goal could be very key. A superb run from Burns finds Hayes the sub, who sends an inviting ball into the box. Tireless captain Bradbrook heads home a towering header to bring Dartford well and truly back into the game.
Dartford are dominant with the Imps holding on. Sheridan comes on for Fairhurst and the Imps change to 4-1-3-2 to attempt to get a third. A great ball from Miller sees Thomlinson appear to be undone by as pass back, although it is deemed to be off Clarke’s thigh. Sheridan chases a lost cause, beats his man, squares to Fofana, but Mo fluffs his lines and shoots wide.
Farman saves magnificently from after another Dart appeared to handle. Sheridan wins a free-kick he has certainly made his presence felt since coming on. Miller delivers, Julian has a sack the juggler moment but Clark puts his laces through it to end the threat. Nolan, a true play-maker role today, plays to Thomlinson who plays in Rowe but Dartford clear. Hayes corner sees Sterling rise highest but heads off the line. Thomlinson then heads over at the other end.
Cornhill comes on for Noble and striker Prior comes on for midfielder Woodyard as Burman goes for broke. Nolan plays a glorious ball to Thomlinson but Julian dives bravely at his feet. Brown denies Prior and Boyce, aerially supreme, is also having a terrific tussle with Harris. Another terrific delivery from Hayes finds the head of Birchall but Farman fists his effort clear. Fry finds Bradbrook but Brown clears for a corner. Hayes corner finds Cornhill who fires against the post.
Sheridan takes the ball wide and buys some time down by the corner to win a throw. Three minutes of stoppage time is signalled as the Darts win a corner. Foster heads clear, Hayes centres Cornhill shoots, Brown appears to handle but it is clearly our day. Its handbags time but the ref keeps a lid on it and then books Bradbrook for a foul on Foster. Boyce then blocks a Birchall effort to ensure that another great team effort carries the day. It is tough on Dartford but brilliant stuff, as The Imps move fourth ahead of a home game against Salisbury that could see us go top if Cambridge, Barnet or Nuneaton slip up.
