Imps Great Aston Villa Find Joins Bulls
John Deehan raided Aston Villa for Paul Green and he vever let us down before moving on to Tamworth, Forest Green and now Hereford, initially on a months loan. Paul can play at left back, right back, centre-back and on the left or right of midfield. Greeny, still only 26, was brave as well as versatile in an Imps shirt and went on to captain Tamworth following our relegation in 2011.

John Deehan signed Green for the Imps from Aston Villa in 2006. Greeny had progressed through the Youth ranks to the first team squad having been given a pro deal but could not force his way into the first team despite his undoubted ability and versatility. The raw youngster was employed as a left back in his first season, despite being right-footed, naturally struggled initially, but, became the player of the year in 2007/8 in his more favoured right-back position.
He then recovered from a career threatening injury and never let us down in a right-back and finally heroic centre-half birth despite his 5. 9 stature. Like Paul Morgan, he is a cultured centre-back using awareness and timing in the tackle as his key tools. Not blessed with natural pace his steady passing would make him the perfect central defensive midfielder. After being released following our relegation, Oxford United had been touted as his new employer but Tamworth stepped in and he captained the side making 43 appearances in 2011/12. The Lambs were sad to see Paul leave prior to his holiday in the United States last year and brought back defender and ex-captain Tom Marshall along with keeper Tony Breedon and young midfielder Jamie Smith, in a triple unveiling.
Following his July transfer to Forest Green Rovers he made 22 appearances (2 Assists 3 Yellows) for them during a season where injury returned to blight his contribution. Paul can certainly do a job at this level suggesting Foyle has bagged a shrewd capture in terms of cost, quality, versatility and experience.
