STMI Grimsby Town Will Take Some Stopping

The Mariners have taken 3 from York City and one each from Port Vale, Luton Town, Cambridge Utd, Aldershot T, and Newport to assemble one of the most balanced, entertaining and combative squads in the Skrill Premier.  Solid defensively last year, despite a nine man clear out, is League Football finally back on the Fisheries menu from 2014/15? It should be for Chairman John Fenty has been forking out fortunes.

The managerial Duo of Scott and Hurst have improved each season but last year undoubtedly missed hit-man-Hearn, despite Hannah contributing during a couple of loan spells, with defensive resilience making up for their normal attacking flair.  The changes over the summer suggest that The Mariners could win the title this season with the duo’s favoured 4-4-2 moving from a defensive variation to the more entertaining double 6.

This season sees a beefing up of the midfield with Captain Craig Disley boosted by Kerr and McLauchlin, integral in York’s promotion, Neilson from Luton and Rodman picked from the very bones of a then down and out Aldershot. On his day this lad is unplayable and with the midfield generals the Mariners have he should have plenty of opportunity to roam.

The experience of McDonald from Vale, Doig from York and Bignot from Newport will only increase the meanness of a defence that could already peel an orange in its pocket.  No surprise to see no new additions up front, but Hedges in as understudy to McKeown, just shows the strength in debth and financial resolve up the road.
