STMI Skrill Premier Guide: Cambridge United are Contenders

Picking the cream of Tamworth and Dartford plus wise acquisitions from Luton Town,  Alfreton Town, Gateshead, Basingstoke and a Fleetwood Town keeper on loan, Jez George & Richard Money have  clearly wised up. United remember spent last season and only made 14th, but this year will be different for a club that keeps nearly every resource it has for the field of play. Head the warning here, The Black & Amber gamblers have just beaten Norwich City 1-0, with Hooper making his debut to boot, to illustrate their title credentials.

Tamworth’s Adam Cunnington was the leading scorer in the division last season and goals were the Black and Ambers problem. Rare is it that a Simpson side loses out in the heigh stakes but we did at home – a 0-0 to further illustrate the point.  In a double swoop fellow Lamb Richard Tate, a defender, also arrived. The Darts of Dartford were dealt a double top as Tom Bonner and Tom Champion, two very influential figures in defence and midfield respectively, also defected. Greg Taylor  of Luton and keeper Chris Maxwell (6 month loan initially) seem to have completed a defensive rebuild as Jonathan Hedge was allowed to go and keep goal at Grimsby.

Nathan Arnold has come in from Alfreton to supply the bullets, the gifted winger fed Tomlinson and Clayton exceedingly well last term. One feels United will not miss gash’s goals (though most were on loan anyway) after he moved to title rivals Kidderminster.  Tom Shaw has left for Alfreton whilst 3 have gone out on loan to balance the books, with ex-Imps Sam Smith and Scott Garner to Hereford (wise move from cash-strapped Foyle the old fox) and Boston respectively; plus Blaine Hudson to Welling (who wont be coming back to haunt). Seven were released after a season that did not do a decent side justice, but that just shows how nobody knows how cohesive a side of talented individuals can be.
