The Imps Are Shaping Up Well Considering….
The Imps have now beaten Middlesbrough FC and Scunthorpe United in consecutive games, scoring two goals in each. Certainly the opposition were playing far from first teamers but Lincoln continue to confound the critics, those concerned over the case for the defence, the bottom third £400,000 budget afforded to the manager and a pre-season pricing policy that has seen many unable to taste the cream. Its all positive on the pitch however. Another of the new signings is now getting amongst the goals, with Fairhurst notching a beautiful brace, showing finishing that would grace any stage. The passing has taken fans and foe by surprise given the reputation and size of the aptly nicknamed Six-foot soldiers. Hoof!!!!
For those Imps back from their holidays, a recap of an optimistic and intriguing pre-season that is showing an awful lot of promise. STMI take a look at the ins and outs of 2013/14 plus the results complete with hot-links to match reports.
The Comings and Goings
Lincoln have nine signed so far, although one of those is a temporary deal for Foster who will sign his full agreed one year contract as soon as the one remaining member of the admin staff returns from holiday. Imps need not worry but clearly the loss of the CEO has left things a little stretched – perhaps it would be nice to bring back Fran Martin aka Mrs Lincoln City. The manager released 7 players with Oliver moving to Crewe for what could be worth £45k if he plays enough games and triggers enough add-ons. Alfreton split the difference on the initial bid made in the summer according to sources in Derbyshire. In hindsight, a wonderful thing in any walk of life, if Town had let him go at the start of the summer they would have actually been better off as they have had to pay his wages due to the player’s contract being a full-time one as opposed to a 44 week affair. But that’s football for you.

The squad The side does have a decent balance to it despite the compact size with Jordan, Sheridan and Fofana all able to fill in should six defenders be insufficient. The manager also has a loan budget with Boro and The Black Cats apparently impressed with the style and philosophy of the football. As we pointed out in May Jamie Clapham, an Imp born and Bred is the chief development coach at Boro.
Thus far Lincoln have won four and lost three, with no draws from our seven friendlies. Rowe, Wright and young Yussuf have three goals, whilst Power, Fairhurst and Dixon have two. Click on REPORT below the date for the match report teams, schemes & stats
