Hutchison To Hatters

Former Birmingham City and Lincoln youth prodigy, Graham Hutchison, is currently on trial at Luton Town.  As a 15-year-old Hutch hogged the headlines after the Blues parted with a substantial but undisclosed fee in 2010, pipping Fulham who had also trialled him.

Graham played for the Hatters in the 4-0 win over Hitchin last night as well as the Beds Premier Cup Final win over Biggleswade on Monday night. John Still looks set to offer him a deal, with midfielder Aman Verma and Striker Dominic St Louis also hoping for something. With Graham released on a free we will not see any sell-on fee although we did get a chance to see him play 7 games on youth loan last season. Birmingham released him on 30th June along with another centre back Frazer Kerr.

Still only 20 he has a bit to learn, but you feel the hurly burly of the Conference will take some adapting to. Strength and pace apart, the Hatters are getting a great player who has the attributes to make it much higher up the pyramid.

Graham played in a Lincoln side that exposed him for all the wrong reasons; in truth the back four was getting routed 2 on 1 down the flanks, as well as little cover from the centre of midfield at the time. That said, his composure, positioning and tackling showed a sense of timing that suggested he would do well with a veteran or two to ‘wise him up’ to some of the tricks of the trade. He will get that at Luton and Still is certainly putting together a side that can more than help him on his way.
