To cut to the chase then

Cambridge United

Cambridge are undoubtedly contenders this year, Jez George has added to a strong side that has had a season to bed in. Goals were the problem and with ex-Imp Smith off to the Bulls for a season he has added two more strikers. Cunnington is a fantastic signing and the U’s will give him even more opportunities than he enjoyed at Tamworth. Young Sam-Yorke was a revelation at Basingstoke and is the sort of talent that could compete at Championship level with ease.

Chester FC

Three promotions in three season’s says it all, but the young side has added to wise old heads this season. Ever wondered where John Worthington went last season? Well Sincil Bank will finally get to see him in the flesh next season.  The Conference will also have one of football’s most policed derbies next term when Wrexham and Chester clash. Simon Yeo once netted a penalty for Chester in the fixture – the adrenalin rush was akin to when he served his county in live combat.

Dartford FC

Burman is a shrewd manager, after finishing 8th he is looking to develop rather than ring the changes. Having lost Champion and Bonner to Cambridge he has brought in like for like from Chelmsford.  Mark Arbor will take some replacing you feel.

FC Halifax

Halifax are another phoenix side on the rise and few Imps will recognise the Shay that has become a tidy ground and no mistake (food is great and cheap). Briggs is a fantastic signing from Kidderminster, so is Ainge from Luton.  Matt Pearson (remember him – the Lord Lucan loanee from Blackburn)
