Striker Back On Radar

Former Mansfield striker Nick Wright has failed to agree a deal with Kidderminster Harriers. Burr is however awash with wingers following the arrival of James Dance from Luton Town and Dior Angus from Solihull now that Marvin Johnson has agreed to extend his stay. The Harriers have also signed midfielder Jamie Tolley from Shrewsbury Town, but are said to still be interested in the striker. After Cox deemed Wright wrong for League 2, Simmo’s interest cooled when a move to the Harriers  came into the equation, but after waiting in the wings, he could well swoop should the Harriers discard their prey.

Burr is hoping that he can land another couple of deals before July, but Wright, who played for the Harriers before moving to the Stags, has been holding out for a deal with a League 2 club that appears to have fallen through.  The biggest obstacle for the Imps will be the wages. If Kidderminster are still interested we can’t afford to get into a Dutch auction with one of the moneybags clubs of the division, however they no longer seem to be.

When we ran the who is Nick Wright story back on May 4th, Nuneaton and Tamworth also seemed to be interested. Simmo’s interest appeared to cease when money club Kidderminster  became involved, but after waiting in the wings, he may get a belated last look. The competition is not so tough and perhaps the pull of returning to his roots may not have as big an influence if Kidderminster’s cash is not involved. The Lambs may be nearer home and also be a former club, but they have strengthened in that area and like Nuneaton are almost up to their budget. Simmo however has the funds spare and has been boosted by the fee for Oliver from Crewe.

The manager is back from a holiday/European scouting mission this Thursday and could well follow up his earlier interest in Wright sooner rather than later. Nick is not just a 6’3″ target man as he can also play on either flank, should Simmo have done a deal for this mystery striker and midfielder on the continent.  Tried and trusted closer to home Nick is from the Midlands, having gone through the ranks at Birmingham before dropping down to Tamworth where he found the goal touch. However with the Imps now offering accommodation as part of the deal to the North-West based lads, Nick may pack his Mansfield suitcase and head straight down the A57 to become the Imps new goal machine.
