Taylor Joins Ambitious Sutton United
Former Aldershot, AFC Wimbledon, Dagenham & Redbridge and Lincoln City goal machine, Jamie Taylor, will ply his trade for ambitious Sutton United next season as the The U’s look for promotion from the Conference South. This is a massive statement of intent from Chairman Bruce Elliott and manager Paul Doswell as JT has the pedigree – scoring for fun to get Eastbourne and Grays promoted.
The U’s unveiled two signings last night, two strikers and two Jamies, in Messers Slabber and Taylor. JT will be given the number 10 shirt for next season. They join one of football’s tallest and most unique mascots in Jenny The Giraffe. This is a good move for JT who has a big goal pedigree at this level with a decent midfield including ex-Imp Ali Fuseini and former Charlton and England C Sam Rents in the engine room supplying the bullets.
Jamie, one of the highest paid Lincoln City players last term, will join an ambitious club who finished 6th in the BSS last season. He is unlikely to have to take a pay-cut either, even if he has needed to turn his hand to painting and decorating, as a fill in. The U’s were Isthmian League Champions in 2010-11, but have ambitious plans to be in the BSP after 7 wins took them to within two points of Chelmsford City.
JT is a modern predator, an infectious player who likes to get into the action in and out of the penalty box. Not the tallest, perhaps the very personification of an Imp, when he gets the ball there is a sense of expectation and an immediate increase in the teams threat and momentum. He bagged a goal every 230 minutes plus 7 credited assistance, as well as untold nuisance value that also earned him 6 yellow cards. He gave us the lead in the Cup game against Walsall, but his braces against Telford and Stockport were inspirational in securing 4 vital points for the club at pivotal stages of the season.
Thanks Jamie and good luck.
