Get Your Boots Ready Connor Robinson!
Connor Robinson is set to finally get his chance for Lincoln City, as manager Gary Simpson looks to blood the Imps fountain of youth. David Holdsworth, announced that 5 young Imps would feature last year, only to then loan them out or discard those who have Imp blood coursing through their veins. Young Connor’s cameos have been a treat with 4 goals in 5 starts and just 682 minutes of first team football. He deserves his chance and we Imps so want him to succeed.
Simmo has set out his stall in a long-term vision to rebuild the playing side from top to bottom. This includes a potential career path for the youngsters from the day they join the youth set-up, to the day they hopefully make their full debut in the red and white stripes. The investment in youth has two benefits Firstly, would-be professionals understand what the club is really all about. Being Lincoln bred installs a pride that can be worth a yard on the pitch. Secondly it is a self-fulfilling financial prophesy. The cost is cheaper, with succesful young players guaranteed to generate a fee, even if the tribunal system may mean less up-front with more to come with add-ons.
But to son of Impdom, Connor, a gambolling lamb who can cut through defences like butter, a born and bred breath of fresh air. This lad has a mix of Jamie Taylor and Jamie Forester about him. He is quicker than both and would form a fantastic partnership with Vadaine Oliver (should he stay). He is a maker of goals as well as a taker of chances. When he gets the ball the level of expectation, the game’s raison d’etre, rises in the stands. Thus far his impact on games has been as limited as it has been explosive, but his time is about to come, one feels, upon the Sincil stage. One can understand the desire to protect him during the tough times but Connor is ready and chomping at the bit to deliver for his Imps. Lincoln born, Lincoln Bred, Connor’s an Imp until he’s dead.
