Central Defender’s Path To Imps Clears
Former Huddersfield Town, Wrexham and Lincoln City centre back Nat Brown, has been released by Macclesfield, paving the way for another season at least at the Imps. He is just the mature calming influence a young side needs with successful play-off experience at the Terriers. Nat lives in Sheffield, not far from Gary Simpson, so a deal is surely just only a matter of time.
Nat enjoyed play-off success with the Terriers in 2003/04 and it was of some surprise to see him join us. Nat is a battler and did well at the Imps under KA, who also signed him for Macclesfield. A mysterious wrist injury (the long-term bandage must surely have been a PlayStation wound) saw him drop down Schofield’s pecking order before Peter Jackson agreed a ‘by mutual consent’ deal that allowed him to move to Wrexham in June 2008. An initial loan to The Silkmen became permanent and he would go on to become a rock at Macclesfield under Keith Alexander and then Simmo, popping up with some vital goals to back up those consistently inspirational performances.
At 31, Nat Brown still has plenty to offer and is certainly good enough for the BSP, if not League 2, as ex-Imp Scott Kerr, now at York would attest. Chesterfield made a bid for him last season along with Mansfield Town and Burton were also in the chase. A popular figure at Moss Rose he fell down Kings pecking order allowing the Imps to cut an emergency loan deal in March. He was inspirational in his 10 games next to Andrew Boyce and Tom Miller. Nat is the sort of brave talismanic figure a side needs and his presence in either box has seen him pop up at vital moments with heroic results.
