Simmo Striker Search Boosted By Brackley
FC Halifax will play Brackley for the right to play in the BSP next season and that is good news for the Imps as Brackley’s 3-0 defeat of Altrincham (4-2 Agg) will allow Gary Simpson to swoop for striker Duncan Watmore. Damian Reeves meanwhile could end up at Scunthorpe United, now owned (bar any Queensbury Rules legal challenge), as big fan Peter Swann aims to shoot the iron back up the League.
Ex-Imp Jefferson Louis continues to help the Imps cause, with the first, to tie the semi at 2-2, in the fourth minute. Izaac Reid made it two on 26 before Glenn Walker rounded off the rout just after half-time.
Simmo will now surely give Alty gaffer Lee Sinnott a call as soon as the dust settles. He saw hot-shot Damian Reeves and Duncan Watmore play in a 2-0 win over FC Halifax a couple of weeks ago. Duncan managed 14 goals in his debut season and has phenomenal pace, a great touch and can dribble, suggesting he can adapt to the variety of formations Simmo likes to play.
Reeves, on the other hand, will be too rich for our blood. We are unlikely to tempt him from a relatively lucrative deal, with the additional flexibility of a part-time regime that allows outside interests. Trinity tried but failed with a four figure a week plus deal for a player that has notched over 40 goals in the last two seasons. But at 27, a crack at the Football League and a long overdue pay-day courtesy of Swann’s millions, would do very nicely indeed. The Iron could also pay a fee, as Altrincham may need to cash in on an ongoing contract after failing to go up.
