Farman Set For Glory

Paul Farman looks set to sign a new deal at the Imps over the next few days despite unconfirmed interest from elsewhere.  The Newcastle United Youth, is still 23 and would therefore command a fee should his head be turned at the last minute.  But having  had a fantastic first full season at City, after finally signing from Gateshead, including an England C recall, next year is the one that will see him and the Imps begin to enjoy the sweet smell of success. STMI and the majority of Impdom will be ecstatic to see you at the Imps next year Paul, your hard work and tenacity between the sticks deserve it. You are a massive presence for us Paul.

Thank you for reading Neil Gentleman-Hobbs

Paul is a fantastic shot-stopper, the best in the division by a mile. His double saves and man-of-the match performances saved us at least a dozen points last year. Yes he has made the odd frustrating error, but who wouldn’t in the face of  wave upon wave of pressure last season. Some will point at his kicking, but this too has improved with the coaching team keen to address one of his few achilles heals. Let’s face it, you can’t get better than ‘hoof’ Grant Brown to show you how to clear the decks. Then again Simmo made Jose Veiga, aka The Cape Crusader (from Cape Verde), into a great keeper at Macclesfield, so perhaps there is room for some improvement in an already impressive set of skills between the sticks.

Paul spent 8 games on loan at the Imps between November and December 2012 , but an injury saw the cash-strapped Imps send him back to the Heed earlier than anticipated.  It was no surprise as Paul made 3 great saves in a vital 2-1 win over Barrow on his debut and kept two clean sheets against Ebbsfleet and Forest Green as well as keeping us in the 0-1 reverse at Newport- at that point a new low for the Imps. His 8 saves during the 2-0 win over FGR, in which he sustained the injury,  won us the game.  He would recover from injury to reclaim the number one spot with the Heed (he was an unused sub at the Imps upon his return from the physios table) delivering 3 clean sheets in 9 games before being dropped for the last 4 games.

With Joe Anyon seen as too rich for Holdsworth’s budget, despite agreeing to a 55% drop in wages, Paul was signed last summer with Impdom finally getting an England number 1, albeit England C. Paul grabbed the opportunity with both gloves and never looked back. His 7 saves and clean sheet in the opening day 1-0 win over Kidderminster was bettered by a dozen in the 1-1 draw at old club Gateshead.  Paul would make 152 saves last season, from point blank blocks to claw backs and spectacular ones for the cameras. He was and will be a rock upon which to rebuild a side fit for a play-off push.

Behind a settled back four with a bit of support from the midfield, Paul Farman has a massive part to play in the rise of the Imps. That will cement his place as an England number 1.
