Simmo Eyes Miss-fitting Hatter.

Current Luton and former Derby County, Tranmere Rovers, Macclesfield and Grimsby Town combative midfielder Arnaud Mendy will definitely leave the Hatters this summer. Simmo signed the 6’3″ midfield Goliath for Macc and is a big fan of the lad who got him glorious goal against Bolton in the Cup. Although a fee may apply the media appears awash with the news of an increase in the Imps budget for next season, so Simmo may move for the player.

Arnaud was schooled at the famous FC Rouen Academy before moving to Derby County in 2008, making his debut against Sheffield Wednesday, before moving to Grimsby for some regular first team experience. Not quite, when Woods replaced Newell, Arnaud was sent back to the Rams, only for another  loan deal at The Millers to be denied by the closing of the loan window. His inspirational displays for the Rams reserves led them to the Central league title in May 2010.

A three month loan at Tranmere saw Arnaud bag the winner in a 1-0 win over The Posh. Simmo who has good contacts in France, signed him after his release from the Rams on a one year deal in July 2011.  He became one of the first names on the team sheet and a linchpin for a Macc side on the march until injuries and player sales led to relegation. King liked him and he was offered an extension into this season until Luton took him on loan.  A swap deal involving John Paul Kissock made the switches permanent in the January window.

A regular under Paul Buckle, topping the Hatters card count with 8 yellows, it was safe to say the new manager was not a fan and Arnaud was recently placed on the Transfer list by John Still, for ‘non-footballing’ reasons. A breach of discipline was cited and, with the transfer and loan window closed, the competitive box-box midfielder will have to wait until the summer to move on.  The 23 year-old will command a fee (under 24 rules) unless a very favourable agreement can be reached with a suitor club.

This could spell bad news for Mo Fofana as Arnaud can offer the midfield much greater tactical variation. He has a great engine, good technique, and is a solid passer  who is a determined and popular lad.  If we can afford him – because he wont come cheap -Arnaud will perform and give us something extra against every side we come up against, including the odd goal.  Take a look at this one

  1. A great engine? You obviously have never seen him play. getting out of the centre circle is a miracle

  2. Northants Hatter

The reason he will be leaving us at Luton is because of reasons off the pitch – not on it.. To be honest his performances on the pitch this season hasn’t really warranted a new contract either. I find it staggering that certain managers are salivating over the prospect of signing him…
