Connor Robinson – Youth Proof!
Connor Robinson has been given the young player of the year award after grabbing 4 goals and one assist in just 5 starts and just 592 minutes of first team opportunity. He almost bagged another against FC United of Manchester, as loan club Worksop Town won 4-1.
Connor has not had it easy since starring in the Imps 3-0 Youth Cup Final win over Chesterfield at the B2Net Stadium in April. He made his debut as a sub against Hayes in the BSP last season and was given a two year first pro contract. Connor has looked useful when he has played this season, but like all the youngsters, given a heraldic fanfare in the Summer, he has been used and discarded by Holdsworth. A March loan to Worksop for a month, under the stewardship of Simon Clark, only earned him two sub appearances in a season that could have been so much more under a different manager and different circumstances.
Gary Simpson is the perfect manager to heal those wounds, for one so young. A good pre-season will see Connor realise a potential that could see him reborn. Imp born and bred, he feels the passion and may well be a perfect replacement for Jamie Taylor. One of our own may well be every bit as good as any landmark signing, if Simmo can have time to develop the lad.
Well done Connor, don’t look back in anger, Wednesday morning could well be a new Imp dawn.
