Wrexham V Grimsby The Teams, Schemes & Wembley Dreams

Over 34,000 will brave the elements to see Wrexham and Grimsby  contest the FA Trophy final at Wembley, with the turnout split down the middle.   Tickets are available on the day, but if not you can see the game live on S4C with an STMI match report to follow.  The game will see beauty and passion with the poetic Keates and, most artful dodger Disley, set to orchestrate things at the centre of midfield.

The teams & schemes

With Keates back from suspension Andy Morrell is spoilt for choice despite the ineligibility of David Artell and Dele Adebola. Rob Ogleby is also back from Wales U-21 action and Neil Ashton has fully recovered from injury. Niven will have a pre-match fitness test giving Artus and Thanoj a starting opportunity. Defenders Pearson and Thomas are suspect with a knee injury and illness respectively. Hit-man Hearn missing for so much of the season played in the reserves in midweek and could feature at some point.

Wrexham FC.png The  Foes Form For The Final Grimb Badge.png

At first glance it is third against fifth in the BSP, but in reality Wrexham’s form is much better than the seasick Mariners. The Dragons have won 2 of their 5 games in March, whilst the Mariners have just the one win, losing the last four and standing second from bottom of the League in the current form stakes. Though both sides have enjoyed prolonged periods at the top this season, the Mariners need to view this as a day out from the desperate chase to bring League football back to the Lincolnshire seaside. Cup finals are one offs and this one is too close to call one feels.

Wrexham FC.png Keeper corner Grimb Badge.png

Wrexham FC.png Chris Maxwell

Chris Maxwell has come in on loan, from Fleetwood, for Josh Mayebi and made the position his own for the last 12 games (10 BSP & 2 FAT). Chris has kept 5 clean sheets, that’s half of his 10 BSP appearances. During the two-legged semi, Trinity exposed his weakness and hesitancy with crosses, although he is a brave lad with terrific reactions. His inability to be anything more than a bench-warmer at Fleetwood is very much the Dragons’ gain.

Grimb Badge.png James McKeown

The former Walsall and Boston keeper goes from strength to strength. He has kept 11 clean sheets in his 36 BSP appearances, conceding at a rate of just under a goal a game.  He is brave and brilliant and should be plying his trade at a much higher level than the BSP – so add loyalty to his CV too.
