Don’t Panic Its Braintree, Dartford, Stockport, Hereford, Barrow and Mansfield Up Next

Prior to the FGR game and, with Braintree, Dartford, Stockport County, Hereford United, Barrow and Mansfield on the horizon, Mr Holdsworth told BBC Radio Lincolnshire that there was plenty to look forward to.  As many of you are aware we could not be at the game, but after a 2-1 defeat, that saw a late Smith penalty consolation against, a strong side, is he right or wrong? Have the Imps weathered things, garnering just 3 points from a possible 21? Or will the next six six-pointers see that 3 point gap narrow, as we fall through the trap-door? So, let us take a look at the form of the foe as DH’s Sincil soldiers salivate.

With the Imps now sitting seventeenth, with 28 games played, only two ‘neath the trapdoor have games in hand, namely anchor-club Ebbsfleet and Barrow, making that game a six-pointer if ever there was one.  Telford, 3 points back, have played a game more.  Nuneaton , 4 points back, enjoy a game in hand. Of those providing a cushion, all are just one point behind us.  Gateshead, who entertain Stockport on Tuesday, has 3 games in hand whilst Tamworth and Stockport have one. The latter will be a tough six-pointer , with a packed Edgeley Park the venue. That saw a thriller when both sides ominously fell from the football League.

Perhaps David Holdsworth does indeed have grounds for optimism, as the Imps kick off in earnest against a side with a better away record than home. Currently Braintree are the 4th most in-form side in the BSP, largely down to their away form (7th) which continued with that 4-2 win at Nuneaton on Saturday, that saw them leap-frog us. That will be tested, as will Town’s stamina, with a Tuesday visit to high-flying Newport.  Presumably DH’s plenty to look forward to sees him fancy a win here followed by another 6 points against Dartford, who we beat 4-2 at the end of our ‘run’. Despite being a club on the rise, their 7th place position hides the fact that they are in free-fall, not unlike ourselves. A draw will not do for either side you feel with Sincil Bank’s faithful dwindling by the week.

We would love to comment further but we can’t, leaving you to draw your own conclusions fellow Imps.  One thing we can safely deduce is that the Cup run and that unbeaten period, starting at Wrexham and ending with Woking, did give us a brief further fillip with that rebound 4-2 win over Dartford.  Both Wrexham and Dartford, are perhaps more poignant than we would think, with the postponement of the Wrexham game, perhaps, saving further blushes. Indeed, although both sides and, those runs, have given rise for optimism, it also gave us a vital 16 points and, saw the last coverage and critique of all things Lincoln City, from your dear old Save the Mighty Imps.
