Shades Of Gray Rant: Things Can Only Get Better, Erm Maybe Not
With a precious home victory at last, albeit against a team 2nd from bottom and the Board of LCFC meeting with a supporters group you would have thought that things were looking up, but how wrong could you be.
Sincil Shades of Gray has a rant for us
A win is a win I suppose even if it was against Hyde. You would have thought by some of the posts on the various supporters forums we had actually turned the corner. This isn’t the truth at all. It took an 18 year old loanee and a 17 year old striker to carve out a chance that even my wife could have scored to turn around yet another patchy display by a team devoid of tactics and direction. To yet again try and sit on a one goal lead shows how desperate our manager has become to even get a win and in my opinion how tactically naïve and inept he really is. The one plus side of this week so far is that he hasn’t signed another player yet, but it is still only Tuesday so you never know. On Saturday we travelled to Tamworth, the scene of our last manager’s demise, but, despite the 0-1 defeat he is likely to be here for some time.
That’s enough about the footballing side of the club as it is so depressing it has driven me to have another drink. So let us begin with the meeting between the Board and the Lincoln City Banter supporters group, based on what I have read at present.
The Board were asked a number of questions on the finances of the club and some of the answers seem to contradict the statement made by the Chairman on Radio Lincs only 10 days or so before. The Chairman had said that the club was losing £10k a home game, yet, the Financial Director said the projected loss would be £150k for the season. So we only play 15 home games a season then do we? No wonder we are always fighting relegation as we can’t fulfil all our 23 home fixtures.
On the playing side the Board have given their full backing to the Manager, even though the Chairman admitted he didn’t have enough experience when first appointed. SO WHY BLOODY APPOINT HIM THEN? They feel that the signing of 46 players in 47 weeks is acceptable because we were/are fighting relegation. Note to club ‘ If you had sacked the last manager when we got relegated we may have not been in such a mess when he took over.’ The Chairman has recognised this up to a point so that’s enough said about it. I still feel the manager we have at present is the wrong man for the job, but what do I know, I have only supported the club for 38 years.
The biggest problem many fans and I will include myself in this is that the club have become totally detached from the fans/supporters with their complete lack of PR regarding anything LCFC related. This was only made clearer when the Chairman said he has evidence of 6 posts on forums that were libellous but, at present will not be taking court proceedings against the individuals at this moment in time. Mr Dorrian you are Chairman of a football club and I think you need to be a bit more thick skinned than you are as you will come up against worse than what has been said if things don’t improve on the pitch very quickly. I can see in the very near future that the fans – if results don’t improve – will yet again resort to a protest (at the very least all the plumbers in Lincoln will be put on high alert, just in case another pipe decides to burst).
Some supporters are relishing this opportunity to fire fight on behalf of the club as they have seen that, with this meeting occurring, it has taken the pressure off the manager and team so the results, both Saturday and tonight, will be irrelevant. Some are even suggesting that the stay away fans should start going back and watching the dross that is dished out week in and week out because it will help the club. If these fans went back and paid over the odds for something they don’t enjoy then the Board would go back to its attitude of everything is ok, so lets go back to the way we were.
In these times of austerity people want value for money and, myself along with the other 2000 or so stay away fans, feel that at present, this is not the case, so without a shadow of doubt we will not be going back in the near future. If results don’t improve I also feel that the Chairman will have no choice but to relieve the manager of his duties which will save his own backside for a while and may also put another 500 or so on the attendance. If he appointed Grant Brown as caretaker Manager until the end of the season if this did happen, then I could see upwards of 1000 fans returning.
This is just one fans opinion, but speaking to other fans some being supporters for 40 years plus I am not alone so until things improve the clubs plight will not improve.
