Basement Battle At The Bank – Are Imps on Hyde(ing) To Nothing?

Hyde come to the Bank on Saturday, fresh from a 5-2 romp, over Hereford United, their first win in the BSP.  Morecambe signing Phil Jevons bagged a A hat-trick.  The Tigers may have tamed the Bulls but they stay 23rd, one place below the Imps, ending a run of 5 defeats (Wrexham 0-2, FGR 1-3, Southport 0-2, Mansfield 0-1 and Luton Town 1-2). The opening two against Braintree (2-2) and then Barrow(0-0) had given some rise for optimism after promotion as champions of the BSN.

The Imps simply have to win this game. Even though it is far too early in the season to discuss relegation, a draw or defeat on Saturday will be a huge psychological blow. The Tigers will see this as a cup-final and a big venue compared to  those they won the right to avoid after a championship season in the BSN. Ask any ex-League teams fans and they will all say the same – the little sides raise their game when they play on the bigger stages of the BSP.

Hat-trick hero Phil Jevons admitted a weight had been lifted off Hyde’s shoulders  after that win against the Bulls. They came from one down to even things before half-time thanks to Spencer firing a leveller on 39.  Brown put the Tigers 2-1 up with a sweet drive into the corner before Jevons blasted three goals in 12 second-half minutes to help the Tigers to victory.  New boss Scott McNiven believes Hyde can now build on a first victory that lifted them off the bottom.
“Everyone’s aware we were due a result like that,” said McNiven, whose side went behind in the fifth minute at Ewen Fields. “It shows the team spirit we have and, hopefully, now we can kick on from it and climb the table.”

The Imps will need to build on our own resilient team spirit and go for the jugular from the off on Saturday. Then go for a second to show we have the instinct and desire to kill off teams.  The players must understand that every fan backs the team for the 90 minutes. The fear and loathing will never get in the way of supporting you our heroes than don the red and white stripes.

Come on lads – You can do this – for your own professional pride as well as local pride. One game at a time, don’t look back in anger and believe!
