Newport County Focus

Exciting times for the Exiles with Justin Edinburgh already bringing in: strikers  Aaron O’Connor & Danny Crow (both Luton Town) & Jefferson Louis (Lincoln); midfielders Michael Flynn (Bradford City) and Jake Thompson ( Forest Green Rovers); central defender Tony James (Burton);  plus a keeper, make that two due to injury,  with Alan Julian and now Lenny Pidgeley signing one year deals.  But wait there is more to come, on August 20th , as a board meeting ratifies a Euromillions winner plus four new businessmen to fund the new era fit for the new HQ at Rodney Parade

(Most recent first) Trialist keeper Lenny Pidgeley pens a one-year deal after an impressive pre-season,another trialist, ex Cardiff City full-back Ben Swallow should also get a deal. Great news on the financial front as Euromillions winner Les Scadding plus 4 other businessman are set to join board on 20th August at the AGM.

Edinburgh wants another keeper. Midfielder Michael Flynn signs from Bradford a decade after last playing for the Exiles. Manager Justin Edinburgh signs a new contract to 2013/14. Newport chairman Chris Blight quits the club, after ten years, claiming to have received a series of abusive phone calls over the weekend. He will relinquish his place on the Board of the Football Conference with immediate effect. Released striker Jake Reid has joined AFC Telford United whilst ex-exile keeper Thompson looks set to join Worcester City.

Edinburgh wants 4 more to complete the jigsaw. Three ex-Neath players (they were wound up last month) Kerry Morgan, Chris Jones and Sam Gwynne are on trial. Striker Danny Crow in from Luton Max Porter has agreed a one-year extention. Newport cannot play in the Welsh Cup this season after just one season back in the competition. UEFA, European football’s governing body, ruled earlier this year that clubs in the English pyramid leagues are not allowed to represent Wales in Europe.

Newport are also closing in on Five fresh deals next week in addition to the 3 new faces this week – Jefferson Louis, Jake Thompson and Tony James. David Pipe made captain. Ground move: Leaving Spitty Park to play at Rodney Parade the home of Newport RFC for next 3 years,
