Grimsby Town in Focus

Rob Scott and Paul Hurst have invested heavily again signing defenders Simon Ford from Chesterfield, Sam Hatton from AFC Wimbledon, Aswad Thomas from Braintree;  keeper Greg Flemming from Chesterfield; Right winger Joe Colbeck from Hereford United; and strikers Greg Pearson from Burton Albion and Andy Cook from Barrow. Triallist midfielder Derek Niven also gets a 1 year deal.  Coulson has left for York City and Scott Garner went to Cambridge and Anthony Church,  Kiernan Hughes- Mason,  Peter Winn,  Gary Silk and Charlie I’Anson were also released.

The Mariners are disappointed with a 2-1 defeat at Stalybridge.  Simon Ford rejoins the club after 2 seasons at the Spireites. 840 Mariners travel to see Town defeat local rivals Lincoln 5-4 on penalties in the Lincolnshire County Cup Final (1-1 at full-time) . Combined season ticket sales at Grimsby are set to top 1800 with 200 season tickets also being written to. Hit-man Hearn is struggling with an injury to his calf and Achilles area. Former Chesterfield keeper Greg Flemming caught the Mariners managerial duo’s eyes and has been offered a one year deal.

Former Chesterfield captain Derek Niven in on a 1 year deal. Ex-Macc holding midfielder Lewis Chalmers has unsuccesful trial for Mariners. Striker Greg Pearson arrives from Burton Albion on a 1 year deal. Two live TV games – Wrexham (A) Sat 25th Aug KO 17.15 and Luton (H) Fri 22 Sept KO 7.45. 864 season tickets sold as at 5th July.
