Will George Make Third Bid For Smith?

Lincoln and Cambridge United appear unable to agree a fee for striker Sam Smith if David Holdsworth’s hint is anything to go by to BBC Lincolnshire. As he is both under contract and just 22 years old, the Imps are due a fee under the U24 ruling, but Jez George seems unperturbed despite having 2 bids knocked back. As Smith has signed a new contract the Imps are in pole position, but should the player want to leave for non-footballing reasons the realities suggest that some form of compromise will have to be reached.

David Holdsworth told the BBC that any Smith departure ‘ will not be for football reasons’ after the rumour mill threw up news of  two rebuffed bids for Smith from the Black & Amber gamblers.  The dilemma now is will Jez George make a third bid that will be enough for the thread-bare Imps to cash in?
