4 Gary Mills Midfield Matador

David Holdsworth has made combative captain and ex- Mansfield Town midfield boss and play-maker,  Gary Mills,  the Lincoln City Captain for the 2012-13 season.  This will see a sideways move for left-back John Nutter to club captain and, is perhaps another sign that the Gillingham and Tilson influence is now history at the club following Joshua Gowling’s transfer listing on Monday.

Mills will be at the centre of things this season in every sense of the term.  He was brought in to be the midfield boss and knows the non-league well having played for Rushden & Diamonds, Crawley Town, Stevenage Borough and Kettering. He is Holdsworth’s man having worked under him at Mansfield Town and was an instrumental part of Nuneaton’s rise to the BSP last season.
His signing on May 21st, on a year long deal, suggested we wanted someone who could lead by example and be there in the good times and the bad.  He spent a large part of his career at Rushden where he enjoyed their football League highs and non-league lows. It was character building stuff  as he endured their demise, before moving to Bath and then Nuneaton.  Borough would go on to enjoy their third promotion in 4 seasons with Gary a key component in the engine room.   He is a battler, can pass and has reasonable pace. He will backs down to no one in the challenge.
Gary has a terrific football brain in the heat of battle and a great range of passing,  His flick and turn to put young Robinson away, against Grimsby, was a joy to behold.  His passing is more solid than spectacular, but he is able to unlock a defence with a deft threaded ball.  At 31 he certainly has the experience, let us hope the injuries will not catch up with him over a 46 match marathon.
Good luck Gary, definitely one to watch.
