3 Who is John Nutter

Tilson raided Gillingham FC for Tony Sinclair and John Nutter, giving us arguably the finest full-back pairing in the Blue Square last season. Having won  the FA Trophy with Stevenage Borough in 2007 and Grays Athletic in 2006 & 2005, as well as the Conference South in 2005 John knows how to succeed at this level.  He then went on to win the League 2 play-off final with the Gills as Simeone Jackson’s header did for Shrewsbury Town.

The Imps Captain joined on a two year deal determined recapture his non league pedigree of the mid noughties.   But it was not to be as the Imps struggled  in a season of turmoil on and off the pitch post relegation from the Football League. His effort and quiet style of captaincy was sometimes understated but he gave it his all  and played in all 46 BSP games last term. His set piece delivery from free-kicks and corners is consistently good, indeed the deflected effort against Newport started a 3 game winning streak that arguably saved us after demoralising defeats at Alfreton and Bath. With Bore in front of him and Gowling next door there should be a level of security down the left flank for next season, but  John needs to be a more vociferous captain and show more of the attacking side of his game. When he does get forward, his delivery is a thorn in the side of BSP defences -as long as we have the personnel on the end of it of course, Good Luck John we know you wont let us down for want of trying.
