Are The Imps Safe or Northern Premier league Bound?

There are bound to be mixed views amongst Imps after the draw against part-time AFC Telford. This is only natural given  on-loan striker Kyle Perry came back to haunt us, plus the yield of just 1 point as opposed to the 3 on offer against one of our rivals at the wrong end of the table.

We are actually on our longest unbeaten run so far this season – three draws to be exact – but 3 points from 9 is borderline relegation form in most divisions in England’s football pyramid.

They do say the table does not lie, particularly by this stage of the season. Our problem as ever is home form,  with the divisional rank at Sincil Bank (17th) comparable to our away escapades (18th).  Given two games to come against Hayes plus games against all our rivals we must start to take maximum points from our home games at least. One win  may only be three points on paper but nick a draw in the next one and the confidence will rise almost as fast your League position at the wrong end of the table. Stockport apart none of our biggest threats got a result on Saturday.

Although we are on our longest unbeaten run of the season – 3 draws – with just one defeat in 5, we also have just the one win going into the short trip to the Stags. As well as being a local derby the Holdsworth homecoming will lead to a very passionate affair with hundreds of Imps set to travel.  We then face Alfreton at home and Bath away, two must win matches.  The subsequent home game against Newport and away trip to Hayes also need to see at least 4 points because the home games against Tamworth and Cambridge will be very tough. We will then travel to the resurgent Stockport County,  play Darlo at home and Fleetwood away.  Hayes will be our last home game of the season with Ebbsfleet away very much the last throw of the dice.

When we look at our month-by-month form, the appointment of David Holdsworth is clearly proving to be a step in the right direction and one that statistically appears to be upward.  We are 5 points above the relegation places as the previous table shows with Bath are pretty much down. The three remaining places sees four teams separated by just a point, so it is tight and 4 points from the six against 23rd placed Hayes would do everyone a big favour. The Jim Gannon effect has also seen Stockport open up a 4 point gap on the bottom five. The Hatters are now just two places and 1 crucial point behind our good selves.
